Coconut Beach Rainforest Lodge or Daintree EcoLodge
Has anyone stayed at either of these properties?
We'll be in North Queensland for 10 days in late September, and are hoping to spend 2 nights in the rain forest. The rest of our time will be in Palm Cove, so we'd like this to be a "real rainforest experience".
All of the properties seem to get mixed reviews. We had actually even considered Silky Oaks, because they have a nocturnal rainforest tour right on the property (for the Coconut Beach one, I think you have to drive somewhere). But, we decided that it really doesn't sound like it is worth the money.
Advice? Experiences?

We stayed at Daintree Wilderness Lodge for a couple of nights last June and liked it. They have an on-property nocturnal tour (can't remember the price, maybe $30?). I thought the location was pretty good--about half way between the river and Cape Trib. Restaurant was pretty good, if not a little expensive. The only downside for me was all the mosquitos, but I don't think that was unique to that property

We stayed at Coconut Beach in 2005 and enjoyed it - the rooms are basic but comfortable and it is nice to be totally surrounded by bush and its animals.
At the time we were there the meals were excellent however, I notice in some more recent reviews that does not seem to be the case.
There is a nice pool, but the beach was disappointing as it was low tide and swimming off the beach was not an option.

Yes, we stayed at the Coconut Beach Rainforest Lodge <http://www.coconutbeach.com.au/>. in 2005 and it is expensive.
Two things stand out beside the rooms:
Don't miss a chance to have dinner at the nearby, Dragonfly Gallery Cafe. Ambiance, quality and value were tops. We loved everything about it.
At night, if you decide to sit out on the porch outside your room, be sure to take your room key with you. The door locks when closed, so it's easy to get locked out at night (We did) and it is a hike to the front office.
