Lodge at Koele or the Lodge at Molokai Ranch?

If you had a few nights which would you stay in and why? Also, has anyone stayed at the Beach Village at Molokai Ranch? Are they really small and do they have full bathrooms attached to the hut?

Thanks in advance!

If you want luxury, go to the Lodge at Koele or Manele Bay Hotel on Lanai.

For some reason, I preferred the Lodge at Molokai Ranch. I kind of felt like the Lodge at Koele had a musty smell. Also, there was only one bed in each of the rooms at Koele. I guess it depends on who you are traveling with! Then again, the grounds at Koele are quite breathtaking.

We stayed at the Lodge at Koele last year for 7 nights and would return in a heartbeat. They were redecorating all of the rooms while we were there. Next year, I believe, the Lodge is being rebranded as a Four Seasons and will receive further refurbishment. Of the three luxury resorts we have stayed at in Hawaii (Princeville, Mauna Lani and the Lodge), the Lodge was out favorite (although the view at the Princeville was the best).

That being said, I have not been to Molokai but would very much like to go.

First, the Kaupoa Beach Village is 8 miles down a dirt road from the Molokai Ranch. The buildings (called tentalows) are canvas sided buildings, set on platforms, with solid roofs. There are bathrooms inside them with solar heated water and flush toilets. There is a restaurant down at the beach that is open when there are enough people staying at the beach village to warrent it, otherwise, you have to go to the Lodge to eat. You can drive yourselves there or they'll send a car to pick you up. There's an astronomer who comes twice a month to conduct stargazing programs down at the beach. The beach itself is Ok, not nearly as pretty as Kepuhi Beach, but much more swimmable. Check out this website:

The Molokai Lodge and the Lodge at Koele are very different. Molokai Lodge is definitely more rustic: 22 rooms, with the feel of a ranch of the 1930's. Service is definitely more of the Polynesian paralysis style: slow, but with aloha.

The Lodge at Koele is s 5 star luxury resort with all the amenities and service you'd expect.

Thanks for your responses. I figured by looking at the price that the Lodge at Koele was luxury.

How about the islands themselves? I know there isn't much to do but is one more lush and tropical than the other?

Thanks again!

I have been to both Lodges. As you have deduced, Koele is much more upscale and pricey. It is really gorgeous all-around. The tiny town of Lanai City is very cute.

The Molokai Lodge is much smaller but the lobby area is really stunning.. It is an isolated property but quite lovely.

All in all, I prefer the island of Lanai
but there will be just as many Molokai-lovers on this forum.
