Bora Bora and Moorea OTW bungalows at the InterContinental Beachcomber Resorts - anyone ever stayed on points??

Hubby has tons of Holiday Inn points and we can reserve a KING JUNIOR SUITE BEACH room and stay for free. My question is this - anyone ever try to get upgraded to an OTW from a beach unit? Since he is Platinum, might they do it if there is a unit free, or perhaps one could pay the differnce in the price of the units? Any experience out there with this situation?

I don't have experience with Holiday Inn points - but I do have experience with Hilton, Marriot and Starwood points. The answer is: it depends. The best solution - just call the Priority Rewards Service Center - they'll answer your question quickly. If it's all like the other clubs - the fact that he's Platinum will help alot...

Hi Debi - thanks for the advice- I will call, but what they say and the actuality of what might happen can be two different things. The website says that platinum gets a complimentary upgrade if there is one avail- I just wondered if it ever really happened to anyone who used points to get the base room in the first place. I would be (very) happy with the free beach room, but oh boy, would I be thrilled with an upgrade!

Happy,

When we stayed at the Intercontinental on Tahiti in 2002 for 2 overnights, we were automatically upgraded to OWB's without even asking and we had only reserved a garden bungalow on arrival and a dayroom on the day of our departure home. We spent the majority of our trip on the other islands. This was all available through the six continents club and we were not using points for the bookings. I was pleasantly surprised with this service.

Hi DJE - what a cool thing! Glad you got the upgrade - I have my fingers crossed that we might get an upgrade even tho we will be using points. Perhaps they would also just let us pay the difference to get into an OTW. No matter what - I will be a happy little cheesehead in the South Pacific....

Hi DJE - a quick Q - what is the Six Continents Club? Hubby is enrolled in the Priority Club, and I see an extra club membership that you can buy, the Ambassador Club, but I do not see anything for Six Continents Club on the InterContinental/Holiday Inn websites

Happy,

The Six Continents Club is the former name for what is now called the Priority Club. I punched in the six cont. on the computer and it comes up as the Priority club. It's a great card to have and and you get the upgrade at any of their affilliated hotel chains as well, based on availabilty of course.

You will have a great time in FP as it's a very beautiful area to visit. Don't bother to spend much time on Tahiti as the real beauty is found on the other islands.

Another website that you should check out is www.tahiti-explorer.com. It's the most comprehensive site for information on that region as well as having trip reports to read and forums to ask questions.

I hope you manage to get an OWB as it's a wonderful experience to be out over the lagoon areas where you can just hop into the water off your deck areas.
