Bed and Breakfasts in New Zealand
Hey all you B & B experts.
We are looking to stay at B&B's in:
Arthur's Pass
Franz Yosef / Fox Glaciers
Queenstown
Te Anau
Not necessarily luxurious but quaint (unique) country home feeling and affordable (<100USD)
Any recommendations? Thanks, Ayal

We greatly enjoyed our stay in Te Anau with Stephen and Kerri James, who have a small farm a few miles outside of town (phone # (03) 249-7252).
In Queenstown, check out Anna's Cottage, run by Ken and Myrna Sangster (phone # (03) 442-8994).

Waiho Stables Country Stay near Franz Josef is a great place, but I think it's more than you want to spend.
Here's another web site that might help:

I am sure that our copy of "Bed & Breakfasts in New Zealand" is out of date. We used it during our trip there in 1990 and found it to be a treasure chest of good information. Look and see if there is a current edition.

Well, its more than 2 weeks later and after studying the subject EXTENSIVELY, I managed to put together an itinerary that includes 7 bnb's spanning the N & S Islands. I will let all of you know how we fared when we return at the end of March. Thanks to all of you for your suggestions. By all means, continue this thread.

Sure!
I guess I will have to do a follow up with a post-mortem report
Ok, here we go:
Arthur's Pass - The Chalet
Franz Yosef - Punga Lodge
Queenstown - Coronet View
Te Anau - Cozy Kiwi
Auckland - The Great Ponsonby
Hahei Beach (Coromandel) - Cedar Lodge
Taupo - The Loft
I am sure they are all wonderful and will let you all know all about it.

We stayed at Punga Grove Motor Lodge (on Cron Street) in Franz Josef in 2001. We were in unit #8, which was really an apartment with kitchen, living room, bedroom and bathroom with spa bath.
We liked the place.
Have a great trip!

Hi Kris
I am just jumping on this thread to let you know that the Great Ponsonby B&B is only about Three Kms (roughly 2 miles) from the CBD. Easy to get to the CBD on public transport. I think it is the 015 bus that goes along Ponsonby Rd to town (I do stand to be corrected on the correct number). In the CBD you will find the ferry terminal which will give you access to the Gulf Islands.
This link takes you to the B&B site.

Ponsonby has some good value restaurants and bars. The mix of cuisine being anything from Thai, European, Fusion to Pizza.
Hope this helps
Steve
