Does anyone have suggestions for a tour company for a one-day tour of wineries in the Barossa Valley? We will be staying in Adelaide, and will have a free day on a tour that we will be taking.

There are several tour companies that do this. Your hotel would probably have a good suggestion or the S.A Tourist Office. Otherwise hire a car and stop at as many wineries as you like. This is a great pastime for Adelaideans especilly with visitors. The Barossa is an easy hours drive away with wineries at Lyndoch, Rowland Flat, Bethany, Tanunda and thats just for starters!

We used Joseph Heyes (http://www.culturaltourism.com.au/) and can highly recommend him. We booked a private tour and were so happy with Joseph that we booked a second tour for later in the week. We also stayed in Adelaide.

Joseph's rates were very reasonable and his knowledge of the area, history and wineries fantastic. Be sure to stop at the whispering wall if you get a chance.

We have to say that we felt like we were out with family on the tours.

The two tour companies that Tourism Australia would recommend would be "Life is a Cabernet" with Ralf Hedsick, and "Taste of South Australia" with Mary Anne Kennedy. I find Mary Anne to be EXTREMELY knowledgeable, not only in wineries, but in B&B's, food experiences, etc. She's my "go to" person whenever I have a question. (and no, she's no relation to me (my last name is also Kennedy), and no, I don't receive anything from recommending her).

Hi Sandys,
the suggestion from Steve & Andrea is a good one.

As far as driving yourself, please don't unless you don't want to sample the wines.
The police are very activ in that area and 0.05 is the limit!!

Thanks to all of you for the suggestions. It looks like there are lots of choices. We definitely do not want to drive - especially after wine tasting.
