I'm not a beer drinker either, but I used to chase down Abbey Ale for Bill; I knew of only one bottle shop in Perth that carried it.

I had the same reaction as you when we came upon New Norcia. I just found where I wrote about it here on Fodor's (post #86 on this link A taste of Perth (and vicinity))

One hour and forty-five minutes after leaving Perth, we’re pulling into New Norcia, Australia’s only monastic town. It’s a wow moment; we think we know what to expect, but we’re startled by the sudden appearance of towering Spanish buildings incongruously rising from the red dirt of the Australia bush. An odd sight indeed.

I'll try to locate those photos and post a few. I'm discovering that I need to be much more organized with my digital photo library!

Haven't found New Norcia photos yet, but did run across some from Rotto - I think someone up thread mentioned quokkas...the best part of my visit to Rotto

Southbank, Brisbane. Great for a day out - casual eating places, restaurants, free swimming, river walks, city views, etc. Easy to see why it's popular.
