Anyone flown Emirates before?

Hello everyone,

I have been trying to book return flights today at Flight Centre to go from Sydney to Christchurch next month with not much luck.

Prices are heaps higher because of the school holidays and Emirates are the cheapest at AU$481.00 pp return. Qantas are $576.00 and Air New Zealand are a whopping $748.00.

Has anyone flown Emirates before? Any opinions? Would love some replies ASAP.

Jenny

Emirates are excellent, they win countless awards, even in economy you will have seatback TV with a really great range of inflight entertainment, the crews are relaxed and friendly and the food in economy is one of the best! You will enjoy your flight for sure!!

I would add that in my personal opinion even if Emirates were a bit 'more' I would choose them over the other 2 !

I've flown Emirates many times, mostly in the Middle East. They're a very good airline, and I too would choose them over Air NZ or Qantas.

I flew Emirates to Auckland and thought they were very good. Service in the air was great, lots of food and it was edible (!), individual TVs in economy with movies, music etc, comfortable seating.

Fodorites are the BEST! Thank you very much.

I needed to know swiftly, as we have to go back and book this morning - and Fodors, the best travel forum on the net, came through.

Thanks heaps everyone. I'm now off to Flight Centre with confidence.

BTW, now only 5 weeks 6 days to go......

Ah, good to read all the glowing reports on Emirates. Haven't flown with them, but we will be flying with Emirates next month to Europe, and later staying at Dubai on the way back.
We heard nothing but excellent reports on Emirates, and when I spoke to various travel agents, guess what they fly with Emirates, so there must be something in that.
Brushtail, if your looking a cheap ticket, why not Jetstar, or Virgin Blue to NZ. Jetstar starts a new service to Christchurch, etc.

Hi Tropo,

Jetstar don't start flying to New Zealand until December, we were told and then only to Auckland.

Virgin Blue is domestic in Australia but Pacific Blue, their pacific network, were the same price as Emirates.
The difference was the times. We would've arrived in Christchurch at midnight and left at the end of our holiday at 6am. Bearing in mind you have to be at the airport 2 hours earlier than the flight, we were not happy with these times.

So we have now booked with Emirates for the great price of $464 each, including all taxes, and arrive in CC at 12.45pm and leave at 7.15pm.

Much better.

Also Virgin would be a narrow small 737 whereas Emirates is a wide body 777
