Didn't see this earlier. The area is vast and attractive, the accomodations are ** to *** at best and kind of more hiking/trekking to see the sights.
The other area is Jiuzhaigou, 9 Tibetans inhabited villages spread over an alpine mountain range with gorgeous lakes. ggreen is there right now and I've asked for a TR.

Well, there are several 3* and 4* (Chinese standard) hotels there, and plenty more 2-3*s. Just not the international chains, yet. I'm sure there will be more coming. It's definitely not worse than the situation at Huangshan.
