Well both my wife and I get our clothes at Crowns, so if its more convenient for you to be in Sukhumvit then I guess you could do both there. If you're really picky with women's clothes, ask for the lady tailor to be there. Usually I fit myself with the man and the lady does my wife's stuff. My wife told me she feels more comfortable with the fittings when the lady fits her.

BradinBangkok - I'll agree with you that Altamoda has some very fine material in their collection, but have you seen the prices? They're crazy!

My husband has had suits, shirts and a coat made at Tony's Fashion House(sounds pretty grim!)on 2 separate trips to Bangkok. Great quality and well taiilored.
On the other hand, I got 2 evening dresses made by the same Tony's and they were AWFUL!!!!

Well after reading all this I too want a suit and jacket made, but don't want to pay an arm and leg for them. We are at the Bossotel the first 3 nights in BKK, then back 10 days later at the Marriott resort for 4 nights. Is there a tailor near those hotels that might work? How far would Crown tailors be for us?...Thanks...er

eck---you are in luck...go see jack at monet il sarto, upper floor of the marriott mini mall overlooking the mall parking lot...go see him when you are first in bkk and then he is right there on your return to the marriott...

he does stuff for me and for my wife...he is fantastic...tell him bob and karen sent you...

his prices are more reasonable than many posted here...like all tailors you have to be very specific about what you want....he will also come to the hotel for subsequent fittings, not for the first one however...generally he is there from about 10-8 except on sundays when they are closed...

I just wanted to echo what Bob said, we wen to back to see jack again a few weeks ago when we were in bkk for the second time. This time we had to have him ship our things home because we bought so much crap that even though we brought two empty suitcases we still didnt have room. They arrived the next week at our front door and everything was great!!! I was very specific about everything we wanted and this time we were even more pleased than the first.

I asked Jack about the same thing Brad said about them maybe all making the clothes in the same place. Jack said that they did. He does have a couple of different guys to make differnt kinds of suits. My British cut suit was made by a different guy than than the guy who did my cashmere blazer. It was weird having several different people waiting to try things on you!

I dont' know where Bossotel is, but the Marriot would be a little far to get to Sukhumvit. I think you best take Bob's advice and stick with Jack. If you're going to be in Sukhumvit then Crown is worth paying the visit.

Does Jack make good women's apparel?

My wife loves the things that jack made for her. We did bring a suit for him to copy for her and he made the changes that she wanted also. Plus we bought several pictures of what she wanted and he did a fantastic job. But we were really specific about what we wanted.

We're staying at the Sheraton Royal Orchid, so I'm not sure how convenient any of these are. But now I'm intrigued about Jack at Monet, and I'm totally convinced we should save time and use the same tailor. I guess because Karen uses Cotton House, it never occurred to me that Monet does women's clothes. What is Jack's selection of fabrics like?
Also, I plan to bring some very heavy embroidered silk from Japan (the piece is several yards long) to have some interesting pieces created from it. Can Jack's people or Crown (Craig?) handle something like that? I fear my work will be more of a challenge than David's because I want business suits as well as silk items. You guys are the best for helping us novices figure these things out! Claire

for silk items a very good place is right next to your hotel...it is js thai silk on the ground floor of the river city shopping place....ask for penny or ms yai and tell them karen and bob sent you....they do everything silk and some other fabrics too....great stuff...

cotton house is just down the river in back of the oriental...easiest way is to take the sheraton boat to the boat pier at taskim and change to the oreintal boat and then walk out back of the hotel to OP Place, the adjoing mall---cotton house is on the ground floor on the left ....

you can do the same thing for jack at the marriott...take the sheraton boat and transfer to the marriott boat...will do two things for you...tailoring and a very nice ride on the river...

jack has a decent selection of fabrics and can get anything that you might want..

I guess most importantly now is that if you want your work to turn out good, make sure you give the tailors plenty of time to finish their work. Whether you use jack or crowns or wherever, go in for the fittings, get your ideas across to them etc and you'll be fine.

One more vote for Jack at Monet Sarto. Range of fabrics, workmanship and price make him 1st class. But as I said in other posts suits should have 3 or even 4 fittings, especially if you are having them mailed as I did twice.
A $300 (US price) Canali 140 superfine slacks is ~$72-$75 at Jack's.

claire_david2- sorry for the delayed reply. My business suit from Cotton House was an excellent very light and fine 3-season wool, but I would recommend Cotton House for linen business suits also, because the tailoring of the jacket is so important and they did that so well.

The fabric selection in Cotton House was not numerically as large as its next-door neighbor, but it was high quality and well-chosen, at least for business wool suiting. We (husband who really knows fabric/clothing) picked a fine, tightly and evenly woven, dark gray wool with a thin red pinstripe - lovely "smooth as silk" texture. I can't say I saw a "Made in Italy" label, but that's the quality. The linen fabrics I saw also were very good. I did not examine their silks or cottons.

i should mention that there is a newish tailor just in back of the oriental, actually next door to china house....the building is fantastic and it really looks like a london shop....i expect the prices are very high, but i suspect the quality would also be very high....someone should check it out for us and let us know...???

How much do u guys pay for suits usually..like for the good ones, not the cheap ones that they offer in the deals.

My last one was the best that jack had in stock and it was $250, or close to that. All total we got, the one full suit for me, a full skirt suit for the wife, cashmere blazer for me, 5 paris of slacks for me, 3 pairs slacks for wife, all mailed to the US for $1,000.

i think the suits are about $300 at the tailors on soi 4 and sukhumvit....as travelduo points out jack is less

Just to clarify, my wife was happy with Jack's suits but was NOT happy with pant suits he madewith both his material and fabric she purchased at Jim Thompson's. It may be a matter of taste.
But, for mens slacks, sport jackets and suits I am re-ordering via mail he is that good for men's tailoring.

I usually get my suits for around the $250 mark actually but at soi 8, not 4.
