It's probably a personal preference as both are at the quiet end of the island. Nai Harn a little quieter than Kata Noi, and a little farther from the action, but have a very nice sandy beache. I only spent time on Nai Harn, just drove past Kata Noi, which also looked nice, but I have no personal experience on that one.
Nai Harn has a little area along the sea wall where women have massage platforms set up under big beach umbrellas. It isn't exactly private, but your also not really on display. You lay there (with your bathing suit on) and they give you an excellent full body massage for one hour for 400 Baht ($10 US). Probably not something someone who is a luxury spa regular would want to do, but as we found, don't knock it till ya try it. We went back for more
Across the quiet street from the beach is as well as down the beach there are little areas with some open air restaurants with good and inexpensive Thai food and fresh seafood as well as little markets for cold drinks, ice cream snacks etc. Definitely no hustle and bustle or nightlife (other than a couple of hotel bars/restaurants)within walking distance, but everything is only an inexpensive cab ride away.

If you can give me about one to two hours from now, you can see some photos that I'm posting, and some of them are of Kata Noi beach (the Katathani Resort, in particular), as well as my favorite.. Villa Royale. Just give me a bit of time. The photos are ready, I just need to have my computer guy (website manager) put them on my site. www.cjscollection.com and then click on the "Photo Gallery" link on the left side of the page. There is an album there right now. It's called Boston GTG, but I've actually changed those photos to hotels I've stayed in, in Europe and Asia. Katathani is in the album. You can do a "slide show" of the photos. Let me know if you have a problem.
