I could recommend Mom Tri's Boathouse on Kata Beach, and the Kata Thani resort on Kata Noi beach. I prefer the Kata Thani over the Boathouse. Kata Noi beach is smaller.

I agree Mom Tri's and Kata Thani both good, both very different, Centara Kata Beach ( before was Central resort ) is good if you cannot afford the other 2, or the Kata beach Resort which is right on the beach. Sawadee Village good but a bit further back from thre beach, it depends if you want 3/4 star or whatever.

http://www.phuket-luxury-hotels.com has a lot and not just luxury, if you want to browse a lot of photos then try

http://www.r24.org/beachsiam.com/phuket/hotels/

and that has probably 30+ places in Kata.

If you can give us an idea of your budget it helps a lot

Mom Tri's Villa Royale villas/suites go for much higher prices. I think we paid about $550 US for our two stays during the holidays, in 2001 and 2002. It's a gorgeous property, but probably not what you are wanting. It isn't right on the beach. It's on a rocky outcropping, with stairs leading down to Kata Noi Beach. If you want peace, tranquility, and pampering, check it out.

If you want a nice beach resort, then the Kata Thani would be my first pick.

We are also a mature couple and the few times we have stayed at Kata we go to a place called THE LITTLE MERMAID - it is an ideal location, little bungalows round a pool, or the new rooms which are on two floors with air con, tv, fridge etc., Only about 1200 baht per night last time we were there 2006 - great location about 5 mins from beach. Lots of nice fish places to eat where we just ordered our food eg. fresh crab for the next day - fantastic if you like small local places rather than big flash restaurants - there are many of these but, we think, over priced compared to the very nice service you get from the locals. Any more info you would like, please dont hesitate to contact me. Regards, Karen.
