Can you recommend a hotel in Bangkok? We're looking to spend <$150 US/night.

Also, please give several recommendations as I'm planning fairly last minute-- we're going in a month!

You might look at some serviced apartments. Centre Point Silom and Emporium Suites have gotten good reviews. Do ma search on this forum and you'll see.

Gpanda...The poster is not going to get Emporium Suites for $150. or less unless there's something going on that I don't know about. I pay more than that and my rent/rate has been frozen for a year, at my old rate, dated back to Aug 2007 and Dec 2007/Jan 2008. The new increase has probably already gone into effect since it usually happens around October. Happy Travels!

Look at Adelphi Suites on Sukhumvit soi 8. This is my current fave. I've stayed there three times this year already.

For a hotel rather than an apartment, the Holiday Inn on Ploenchit is nice. Also the Majestic Grande on soi 2, but its location isn't as good as the Adelphi or HI.

You'd get Centrepoint Silom or Langsuan for that (1 bed apartment) - I've stayed in both and they are fine. Silom is near the river - Langsuan is near Chitlom - more the shopping area but both are very easy with the skytrain handy.

Start by browsing a good Thai hotel site. www.sawadee.com is the one I usually use. Note that the prices there include tax and service (which otherwise adds 17.7%) and often, breakfast. When you find some places that strike your fancy, come back and ask about them.

Been a couple of years but I got the Holiday Inn Silom on priceline at Christmas time for around $85. When I got to the hotel I was able to upgrade to the exec club floors for $20 per night (I actually requested the upgrade well in advance of arrival). You can book that room now for about $175. Or they have rooms at $100 and $135 that you might be able to upgrade. The club floor rooms were nice and the club room was very nice.

Just checked with <agoda.com> for the Emporium Suites- Deluxe Studio Nov 10- $150 w/tax, Nov 16- $136.85 incl tax. I've used agoda for a few years now & have gotten some bookings through them. Unfortunately, they are prepaid rates.

Holiday Inn Silom, $130, HI BKK,$137 tax included standard room @ Best Flex Rate on their website <ichotelgroup.com>. Stayed in the Executive floor at both properties which I recemmend. Prefer HI BKK for its centralized location between the 2. Noted both hotels showing lower rates with agoda but again it needs to be prepaid.

As for Emporium Suites, it must be either low season prices, a special, or maybe tourism is down. I've stayed only in that building since 2005, usually twice a year. I typed in my 3-week dates, on Agoda, for this coming Dec/Jan and it's sold out which is quite common for Emporium Suites.

So, if the original poster can get your quoted rates, then I say jump on it. Happy Travels!

You could stay in BKK for a week for 150usd.

Look at the Asoke Sofitel. We stayed there for $128 a night including taxes & buffet breakfast for 2. The one bedroom suite was huge, probably 1,000+ sq. ft. Huge bedroom and bath, great living room, 2 TVs, ample kitchen, full fridge & a washing machine in a small room. It was VERY clean and had a great pool roof top. It's about a 5 minute walk to Asoke BTS stop.

I just checked asiarooms.com and they offer the Marriott Resort and Spa for $142 per night without breakfast. This hotel is riverside and has been recommended by several people on this forum.
We booked it for our stay in Feb, 2009 on asiarooms.com at this price. We'll go elsewhere for an inexpensive breakfast.

If you got the Marriott Resort for this rate in febuary 09 then you got a bargain. When I checked Asia Rooms it showed the the cheapwst room to be $186 net with breakfast. Are you sure the rate included all taxes etc of 17.7%.

Why don't you stay at Novotel Siam Square? That is in the thick of everything. Also the first hotel in BKK I stayed in.

Some other options:

FuramaXclusive (Used to be Unico) on Asoke. A new property just a few steps from the subway and skytrain. Sawasdee has it for $108. There are two other properties in Bangkok that are less.

Sawasdee also has the Holiday Inn Ploenchit for $123 a night.

The new Park Plaza, also not far from the Asoke Skytrain station, is only $83 a night. I've been hearing good things about this place.

The Novotel Siam Square seems to be way over 150 a night, but the Novotel Lotus, near Emporium, is only $97 a night.

Novotel Lotus is a tired hotel, right in the thick of the escort bars on Soi 33. Proximity to the BTS at Emporium is good and there are plenty of restaurants in the area. I won't stay there, but that's a good price.

Yeah, the Novotel Lotus would be the least attractive of the lot. Actually, I forgot one of my favorites: the Pathumwan Princess, on top of MBK, is currently $132.

Another tired hotel in a great location is the Arnoma, across from Central World, only $84.

Gosh, I didn't realize Novotel SS was so expensive now. It was $us60 last time I was there!

We stayed at Swiss Lodge off of Silom Rd. for a few nights a year ago and it was fine- a really cute boutique type hotel. Street food vendors galour at the intersection of Silom and Soi Convent!! Easy to get around too. Around $65 per night..

I double checked our reservation to be sure. And yes, for $144/night without breakfast, but it includes taxes and service charges, we got a deluxe room at Marriott Resort in Feb, 2009. I also checked the Marriott website.
Both the Marriott and asiarooms.com will charge $180+ for the room with breakfast. I think the $36 difference is we won't get breakfast and we had to pay in advance when we made the reservation. We can have breakfast elsewhere.
