Where to buy shoes for exercise walking?

I do brisk walking as often as I can for exercise and when I am in Thailand ( Bangkok and Chiang Mai ) in July I want to buy a pair of shoes designed for that form of exercise rather than for jogging or cross training. Would anyone have any ideas where I could get some? Many thanks.

Central Chitlom has a large sports section on I think the 4th floor - huge range of shoes.

www.zappos.com. Free shipping. Free returns. And the selection is huge.

buy them at home and then you know what you are getting...generally this type of thing is quite expensive in thailand, if genuine...

Thanks Hobbes and Althom for your suggestions. However, rhkkmk has stopped me in my tracks. I could get them here in that case...my main reason for asking was that I assumed I could get them cheaper in Thailand. Do others agree I should get them here instead? I guess I could price them here then if they are no cheaper in Thailand I could buy them when I get back. Thanks for the advice.

I'd buy them at home. You can certainly get the "genuine article" of many brands of shoes in Thailand, but they will be mostly sized for Thai feet. So if you have feet the length and width of typical Thai feet, you'll be fine. Otherwise, you may have difficulty finding shoes that fit properly. And proper fit is obviously an important element in good walking shoes. The kind of shoes you are describing are unlikely to be cheaper in Thailand in my experience.

Agree with Kathie. I thought you were asking where you could get shoes before leaving. I don't recall seeing any real deals on exercise-type shoes in Thailand (although knock-off sandals are another matter - lots of "Birkenstocks," etc.). But true walking shoes - no - I wouldn't buy them there. Stick with Zappos or a shoe store in your area - you'll do better.

Great advice, thanks Kathie and althom. That is what I will do...get them before I leave and no Kathie my wide feet definitely could not be described as "Thai feet". LOL!!
