what is suitable wear for visiting the temples?

I know I can't wear shorts but do I also have to cover my shoulders?

In some cases, in Thailand, those that had sleeveless shirts had to rent a cover-up. Don't know where you going but in visiting the Grand Palace in Thailand you had to have shoes other than slip-ons. And, since you have to take your shoes off to go in temples, I would recommend easy-off shoes.

In Thailand, you do need to cover your shoulders.

thanks for the advice.
Kathie - by slip-ons do you mean flip flops? Can't I just wear ordinary sandals?

fiona, bring socks along, if you don't want to visit the temples with naked feet. No problem with wearing socks.
Jut stay alert. Some floors can be slippery (because they are cleaned every day and it's usually marble).
I like to wear my own socks, rather than walking bare-foot.
Of course, you can wear just ordinary sandals, but the shoes/sandals/flip-flops, etc. you wear outside the temples, must be left at the entrance in almost every case.
