What places to visit in Myanmar
My family and I are planning a trip to Thailand and Cambodia in December. As we'll have almost a month,we are also thinking of going to Myanmar. So the trip would be sth like this:
7 days in Bangkok
5 days in Seam Reap
4 days in (?) Myanmar, we do not know where
5 days in the Golden Triangle
3 days in Bangkok
Do you think Myanmar is worth a visit? Is Yangon a safe place to go without a guide? Are there other places to visit?
If you have any suggestions to make about Myanmar (cities, hotels, etc), or anyother place we should visit in that region, we'll be very happy.
Thank you for those who have already answer my previous questions! You don't know how much you helped me!!!!
THANKS!

3 days is too short for Myanmar. Yangon is safe but not representative of what the country has to offer. We spent 3 nights in Bagan and 4 nights at Inle Lake. Here's a link to my report:

Hi. I have been looking at Myanmar also, but like you we only have about 4 days. I have been looking into Bagan, since after reading the trip reports and another book which stated the ruins were along the lines of Angkor Wat. From looking at the flight schedules it looks like it is impossible to get to Bagan without at least an overnight in Yangon. That would leave about 2 days there?

i think your # of days could be improved....
5 days in golden triangle may be one too many and 5 in SR is ok but you could trim one there also...
i would add these two days to myanmar and plan to only visit yangon and surroundings....you need a driver there really...
i have one if you need him...very reasonable..
yangon is perfectly safe...

Ten days total in Bangkok seems like rather a lot, too. You should aim to see Inle Lake as well as Bagan, which I didn't find that much like Angkor. The temples are smaller, more like each other, and out in the open rather than spread out in the jungle. For me, the biggest attraction in Myanmar were the people and lifestyle, and you need to get out of Yangon to see that. I don't usually use a guide, but this one country where it really makes a difference.

I assume you are aware of the political situation in Burma, and the contraversy about whether travelers should visit Burma. If you do opt to go to Burma, please do what you can to avoid giving money to the government. There is no way to avoid it entirely, of course, but planful spending can put more of your money into the hands of the people and relatively less in the hands of the junta.

If you are going to Burma you should go for at least 8-10 days. Four days isn't nearly enough. For me the highlights were outside of the cities -- Inle Lake and the Shan state and, most of all, Moguk (although the latter is currently closed to tourists I believe). If you really want to go to Burma I would reduce your time in Bangkok to 7 days, reduce your time Angkor Wat to 3 days and reduce your time in the Golden Triangle to 3 days. Add the seven days to Burma. If you do that I would go to Rangoon for 2 days, Bagan for 1 day, Mandalay for 2 days and spend the rest of the time in Inle Lake and the Shan states.
