I was trying to check on flights between Bangkok and Hua Hin, but there seem to be none. I know that Bangkok Airways flew this route earlier this year. Has it been discontinued?

That is VERY interesting Richard, I just read on a local Forum someone saying rumour that the flights will stop becasue they are loosing money. Bangkok Airways is the only operator, but charging US$ 95 one way for a 1 hour flight in a turbo-prop to Koh Samui it's not surprising! It costs just on US$200 return to go Hua Hin-Koh Samui-Phuket, again on a turbo prop, each sector 1 hr or less. The fare for a Hua hin-Koh Samui-Singapore flight was what you might pay to fly bangkok-Japan, and just a small nudge under a Bangkok-Australia fare.
I will post if I hear anything for sure. Remember though that unless you are flying in early morning l/haul to connect to Hua Hin it is just as quick to take a taxi from Bangkok City.

I also know that there were fairly severe luggage weight limits- and most people who would want to travel to Hua Hin have come long haul with a lot of luggage.

more comfortable and less money and about the same amount of time overall when you consider is a limo ride in a comfortable mercedes for about 2500B...i used the airport taxi company---desk just inside the exit door to the taxi area: tel: 8.733 333 (year 2000).
took about 2 hours 40 minutes and cost $65.

Yes and of course the Limo is per 'car' so you can divide that fare between number of passengers and it's a great deal. Unless you were going to arrive BKK at like 0530-0630 in the morning the flight was not viable anyway. Certainly BKK city center to/from Hua Hin in a race the person in a taxi would get to their destination ahead of the person who took a taxi to BKK, checked in, lounge, bus, flight, wait for baggage, taxi to hotel, also a lot of hassle.

Wish someone would come up with using 19 seater 'beach hopper' flights like in the Caribbean/Seychelles /Maldives, plus also the new Regional jets, perhaps Chiang Mai-Sukhothai-Hua Hin-Phuket and similar, not that would be great!..Sorry I wourked about 15 years in airlinbes so when I see something not working I feel I have some idea 'why'

Thanks for the replies. I knew about taking a limo, but I read in a post on Flyer Talk Forums that the ride was not pleasant as the road was sort of undulating and not flat, which may make my wife nauseous. Is the road that bad?

Well it's not on the Top 100 for pleasna t drives that's for sure! However, it is fairly flat the whole way. After the airport you will go straight up onto the elevated expressway system, depending on time of day it is eather packed or less packed. Once off the expressway you go through a built up area for a little while and suddenly the road 'pans out' ( dual carriageway all the way I might add ) over a few rivers, through salt marshes, then it turns south with flat lands, trees, few mountain views, within about 2 hrs you are heading off towards Cha Am, still flat, past the hotels and resorts into Hua Hin. Ask the driver once past bangkok to stop, the service areas can be quite good, personally I always stick with 'PTT', big blue on white sign, they usually have 7-11's and often Coffee places, toilets are the best too ( though squat-downs ).
The Limos eare usually Mercedes or Volvo so you get a nice ride. Also the Limo drivers are experienced and friendly.
If you are in BKK itself then choose to leave hotel about 10 a.m as that will be the easiest traffic heading out of town.

Don't bother to book the return. In Hua Hin just see the local Taxi drivers near 'Satukarn Square' and pick your vehicle. Normal charge is B 1,500 for sedan/station wagon but I would go for a Luxury 4x4 Land Cruiser at B 2,400, real plush luxury, they are highly efficient.
If you are into Spa Massage try the Nirvana Retreat, between Marriott & Hyatt, it just opened a little while back and is getting raves from people who have been, it's an old Thai House with gardens and they do Balinese and Thai massage, anti-stress, aromatherapy and meditation, friends thought it was 'classic', I am yet to go myself but may go down this weekend and try it out.
