good news:

the Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) has declared rhk and kmk as 'world class shopers' in thailand.

also the foreign exchange market notes an upsurge in the dollar-baht transfer for the june period, and their GDP went up 5% during that same period.

Fodors has warned all posters that their broad band capacity is down to less than 1%. i am trying to finis.....

orgy; my, my. i didn't know i was hanging with such an intellect. i am ashamed to admit that i did not recognize a single name on your list.

here i thought the only thing you knew about culture was the one you give your doctor on your monthly visit. .

rude and mean spirited? who said that? to quote roberto..let them eat cake.

Starving novelist? I think not.

Carol-Bob is ruminating and communicating. Does he have your E-mail address?

Lynn is getting worried. Only 400 more posts and she will be passed.

Clove, I am no China expert but I often get asked by Thai collegues about how to find places and book, lots go to China on business, best I found was an Australian set up which has a huge range across China from cheap to top and lots of other town in addition to main cities:

Copy and paste this, takes you straight to the list of places in China and click on which ever cities, a month back I found them a 3 star apartments hotel in Shanghai for about USD 35 and a places in Guangzhou(Canton) for about USD 25!, quite a lot also on there are 'instant' confirmation which for us was very handy, also they have a kind of 'club' that gives you extra discounts on future bookings, they are not good for Thailand but for Far East and Australia they are great(in my opinion anyway):

I have just finished viewing a couple hundrede pics on RHKNK's site. and I am trully impressed.. before I saw the pics I just pictured RHKNK in a mercadeez taxi going too a 5 star hotel, laying in a pool all day then going too buy thousend of dollers worth of jewlary, silk, and food. (which is all good)). But the pics show a deeper side;. there are many pics of ciute children, locals going about thier daily chores, some realy nice landscape shots and a toillet.. I get the scence that they trully do love thailand and South east asia.. all of it from the lux hotels too Austalian clowns comming up too terrorize Thai children.

the pic albums tell a far better story then the Trip report. cockfighting, monkey, and ladyboys nuff said.

JamesA- many thanks for your input on websites for hotels in china! your tips on thailand, and those of carol and of course his royal bob-ness, were of SUCH help when i was planning a trip there earlier this year. i really appreciate all the great advice in the asia forum, but of course the real reason i check it out is for the banter between bob, andy and orgy7

CFW- have just had a look at the hotelclub.net site that JamesA suggested. am considering a trip to shanghai and HK in september. so far the asiarooms site seems a little more user friendly than asia-hotels and their rates were more competitive in certain instances.

Clove1-I take issue with the use of the term "banter". My remarks consist of purely personal attacks bearing little if any relation to reality or the topic at hand. I hope they are found amusing. Bob's prose speaks for itself. It does, however, have an interactive quality. Orgy is a skilled sniper with an eagle ear (?). Hope your journey to China works out well.

I warn any potential GTG visitors that there is a Marriott in Cambridge. Hanging out around the pool in October will not be much fun. We will be able to get choice spots.

Bob,
Just finished your report, took all evening. What a lot of information and so much fun. My husband came in to see what all the laughing was about.

We might have to give Bangkok a few extra days on our trip, but I won't tell my husband about the shopping. He was shopped out in China and would cancel the trip if he knew what I was planning.

granny---glad you got a laugh out of it...i try to make it fun and informative....its just one man's opinion about a love affair with a place...in this case thailand...

the longer you are in bkk the better you will like it...as long as you make life easy on yourself by using taxis and the skytrain, eat at good places and kick back and let the little things float by you....

Thanx Bob! I got it now! I think it will be excellent reading material for my flight back next week and the big JFK-Bkk 17 hour run. I can read it in-flight as i slip in and out of dreamland. thanx for bringing it up again! Sawadeeka.
