Tranportation within Yogyakarta

What's the best way to get around Jogja? Seems like in the city proper it's on foot.

But we do need to get from one hotel to another. Our first hotel is on the grounds of Borobudur and our second hotel is in town.

The hotels themselves are asking what seems (to me at least) to be an extremely high price for car transport...somewhere between 350,000 and 400,000 IDR. Unless I'm missing something...are they truly that far away from each other?

When you exit the terminal in Yogya, there is a taxi stand with set prices for transport, including to Borobudur. It was definitely cheaper than what the hotel is quoting you, at least it was when we were there.

BTW, I second Marmot's opinion of taking Golden Tales of the Buddha with you when you visit. We were able to give ourselves a great tour with the book in tow.

thanks for the reply, susncrg. my inquiry was more about transferring from one of our hotels to another--and airport taxis wouldn't be an option for that.

i tried to get the book, but unfortunately it looks to be out of print in the US. amazon has it from 3rd party sellers, but time may be working against us to get it here in time.

350,000 to 400,000 from Borobudur to Yogya city sounds about right to me. It's about an hour's drive, maybe 45 minutes. Within Yogya you'll take taxis -- and walk, of course, if you're close enough. Yogya's fairly spread out and it's not a particularly pleasant walking city.

Check with Golden Bird: http://www.bluebirdgroup.com/

This is the 'limo' service wing of Blue Bird taxis. Their email in Yogya is [email protected]

They operate the car service for some hotels, including the Hyatt, so the price you get may be the same, but at least you'll have a comparison.
