Taxi from airport to Beijing

I understand taxi fare is very reasonable in China. About how much would it be from the airport to Beijing. Probably the Jing Guang New World Hotel.

Thanks.... Sue

It is about 85 RMB (by a Xiali) to central Beijing (Forbidden City). You will also have to pay 15 RMB (extra) as toll on the airport expressway.

Xialis are the cheapest form of taxis (usually red in color).

Actually Xiali taxis are not permitted to pick up from the airport, although they can take you there.

However, a Y1.6 taxi (usually a Fukang--a Chinese-Citroen joint venture) to the Jingguang should cost about Y80, depending on time of day, plus Y15 in tolls, as said.

The main rule is not to talk to any driver who approaches you within the airport itself--this way trouble lies. Go to the rank, and when you've finally prevented people from pushing in front of you you'll get a cab very quickly at most times of day. Y2 cabs are mixed in with Y1.6 cabs, and these will obviously cost considerably more, especially when you realise that the price per km rises by 50% after 15km. However, you are free to reject these and insist on Y1.6.

Make sure the meter is up when you get in, and that you see it pushed down. Reject any cab not clearly displaying the taxi supervision card on its dashboard (with a picture of the driver).

Peter N-H
http://members.axion.net/~pnh/China.html

Actually, using the airport mini bus is just as easy as taking a taxi. I forgot the exact price, should be around 15 RMB. (2USD).

Go ask the mini bus driver usually waiting outside the airport lobby if they go to the hotel you are staying. They might just go there.
Actually these are not minibuses but full scale aircon buses, and the fare is Y16. However, none will drop you at the Jingguang.

Your best bet would be the A line (buy ticket at a desk outside the righthand-most exit from the arrivals lounge), and get off at San Yuan Qiao, at the end of the airport expressway. (Resist any attempts to put you on the B line, as although that also passes San Yuan Qiao it drops you at a difficult point for getting taxis.)

A taxi from San Yuan Qiao to the Jingguang should be about Y10.

Incidentally, for a rough conversion of all the prices quoted, divide by eight to get US dollars.

Peter N-H
http://members.axion.net/~pnh/China.html

I'm just curious how far the airport is out of town?

Also, how much additional do you pay for 2 people and for luggage? And, how much do you tip for taxis in China?

Thank you....Susan

The price is for the vehicle. There are no extras.

And there is no tipping in China.

Peter N-H
http://members.axion.net/~pnh/China.html
