Tailor by Peninsula
I know a lot has been written about Tailor's in Bangkok.My ideal set up would be a men and women's tailor both close to the Peninsula Hotel. By searching forum, it seems like Cotton House is the place for women and not too far from hotel. Is there a men's tailor near Cotton House? The hotel has recommended Thai Fashion Square for both men and women. Anybody heard/used them? or can suggest the best way for both of us to get some excellent tailoring without spending all our time running back and forth to differnt tailors for fittings? Thanks.

We have just returned from Bangkok and both my husband and myself used the Cotton House for many items. We both were very happy with the work and we have been to many BKK tailors over the years. We will be going back to the Cotton House. I would email Reed on what your husband wants to see if she can accomodate.

There are other tailors in Sukhumvit also that are highly recommended if you're willing to travel. There's Crown Tailors in soi 8 and Rajawongse in soi 4 that seem to be quite popular with most people.

We stay at the Penn as well when in BK. Unfortunately when I first had men's clothing made I called several of the "name" tailors and they said they could recommend a seamstress but they did not specialize in women's clothing.
I do not know the logistics of Monet Sarto (behind the Marriott Hotel/Spa in a 2 floor small mall on the second floor, to the Cotton House though. He does excellent men's custom work (I have found in 3 trips that I rather buy my shirts in the USA, for though more expensive,if I have a problem after cleaning I can return).The other tailor I used was Raja, Conte's Nast this month wrote an article about he and his brother, but that does not mean he is better than Monet Sarto. In 2003 Raja did some work for me and it was fine.Again,I do not remember the logistics of it to the Cotton House. Our driver/guide took us everywhere.
I can tell you though Monet does womens tailoring it was just o'k. but quite inexpensiive. Therefore, my wife had just a few things made in 2003 and none made this past April. A a suit my wife had made was tailoted very well, it was the pant suits that did not turn out well.My slacks and sport jackets were done very well.
The selection of fabrics at Monet (Jack, is the owner)is quite extensive and slacks using Canali 140 superfine lightweight wool were ~$70.But,he does require 3-4 fittings but they can be done in 21/2 days if you go at 10AM when he opens, back at 6 before dinner or after then at 10 the next morning. I even had a fourth fitting on the morning of the third day because he was shipping the clothes home. If you buy $750+ in clothing he tends to split the shipping cost (~$50 my portion)and it takes 7-10 days.Sorry cannot help you on women's clothes. If everyone raves about the Cotton House I suppose you should not experiment.

From a logistics standpoint you do not want to be going back and forth between Cotton House, which is near the river and Rajawongse, Rajas or Crown which are on or near Sukhumvit. We've done it and its a pain. Try to find a place that will serve both men and women, if you have limited time in Bangkok.

Gloria - do you have an email for Tramps. We arrive on a Sunday and I am trying to find out hours. I am unable to find Tramps through Google search. Also, what was the pricing like at Tramps? thanks.

Tramps opens at 10AM as do all the stores in Oriental Place. Now since it's Thailand they are often "late" but that's the official time. Cotton House is generally on time.They generally all close at 7PM.

Might as well add my questions to this thread...
1. Is Cotton House on the second floor of the Oriental Place arcade?
2. What about T Silk, which has also been mentioned on this forum?
3. When we visited 2 years ago, we did not get to OP until our next-to-last day, too late to have things made, but there was a lovely shop on the first floor that had ready-to-wear women's clothing in beautiful fabrics, and would also have made to order. I bought a lovely jacket made of patches of marvelous fabrics. We paid cash so I don't have any idea of the name of the shop! Does anyone recognize what this store is, from my description?
On this visit, Cotton House will be my first stop, not my last! <g>
