Depends if you want to stay in Chiang Rai or in the Golden Triangle.

In CR the Dusit Island Resort, the Legend and Teak Garden Villa are excellent. At a lower price range the Wangcome and the Wiang Inn are good.

In the Triangle the Anantara Resort is the one raved about on this board. However in my opinion at over $280 a night it is overpriced for what you get - lovely grounds but nothing special for the rooms or meals. Not far away the
Imperial Golden Triangle Resort at around 1/3 the price is good. Both these places are isolated and you will need a car/driver to tour around the area.
