Sorry I ( and maybe others ) did not notice that this was from 'Copenhagen', so it was the staff there, was it actually Thai Airways themselves or was it SAS check-in?
I would have thought at CPH there would be some excess baggage company maybe with an in-terminal desk, I did not grasp that it was from Copenhagen.
If you are used to the 'piece' scenario it can be a shock, as far as 1% of the First class fare per kg yes, you would be surprised at how expensive 'full rate first class' fares are and $5,000 one way, yeh, that probably is the full rate 1st class CPH to Seoul fare. If each case was 31 kg and there were 2 that would be 62 kg i.e 42 kg (officialy) overweight which normally that might charge you for say 62-28 = 34 kgs extra, but they are entitled to charge you the full amount.
Sorry to say though that 62 kg for 1 passenger, you would never get away with that anywhere at all.

My problem solved. I emailed the Oriental yesterday. Got a response today from the Director of Guest Relations who has been there for over 2o years. She told me that if I pack two bags and have one filled with things I won't need in Chiang Mai and Yangon (dressy things and things I want copied etc), they will meet me at the international terminal and take the bag to the Oriental where they will check it until I get there. Works for me! Means I can dump my winter jacket etc in it as well.
