Sirocco Restaurant in the Dome at State Tower in Bangkok

I was considering reserving a table at Sirocco in the Dome at State Tower in Bangkok for my family. Could anyone comment on their previous visit and of their dining experience. I have read some mixed views, but those were mainly written some time ago.

Could anyone inform me of a typical meal price, particulaly of the set menus?

Thanks,
scousemouse

Mezzaluna is the restaurant inside the Dome at State Tower. Sirocco is the outside one. I just went there in January of this year. Mezzaluna was good (not exceptional) and very expensive for BKK. It was also very COLD inside. They provided shawls for us to put around our shivering shoulders!! I would probably NOT return to this restaurant, although the view is the best in the city IMO. I'd just go to the bar (Sky Bar) and pay for an expensive drink and take my time soaking in the view from the 64th floor.

Hi Carol,

Thanks very much for the reply. Would you have a idea of menu prices? I have emailed, but have not received a reply.
Have you tried Mahanaga?

Best Wishes,

I included info on my visit in my trip report but I will copy and paste it here for you:

Sky Bar for a Drink – The sky bar is located in the State Tower Building at the very top. I beer will run you close to $8 a pop but the view and ambiance are well worth the splurge! The bar sits at the corner of the large outdoor area adjacent to the Sirocco restaurant. The bar is illuminated and the lights change color. There is a dress code but semi casual is no problem. I wore capri pants a blouse and sandals and Peter wore long khakis and a polo shirt.

Sirocco restaurant for dinner – Also located at the top of the State Tower Bldg. We didn’t have reservations but we only waited about 10 minutes for a table. High above the busy streets below, the air is cooler, quieter and it even seems cleaner. This restaurant is the perfect place for a romantic dinner. I had a Caesar salad and Peter had the lobster bisque as a starter. Both of these were delicious! I had snapper, which was mediocre at best, but Peter’s prawn dish was incredible! Dinner for 2 ran us about $150 including two beers for Peter and one beer for me. Very expensive for Bangkok. I don’t think I would dine here again although we didn’t regret it.

Mezzaluna prices were about 1100-3900 baht for entrees. Salads from 510-750 baht. Pasta was 600-900 baht. My journal says that we thought that the food presentation was lovely and the service was excellent (but must not have been memorable!!). There were 4 of us, and we had two bottles of Chilean merlot with dinner (3500 baht each) so our total bill, with tip, was 20,000 baht. Husband, if I recall, did not think his chicken was cooked enough.

I noted that the shape of the handles of the silverware was hard to manage! A sort of triangular shape... made it hard to turn, if you were twisting pasta.

Ask for a table by the window if you opt to eat at Mezzaluna.

Thanks very much for all your replies.
I realised that the Sirocco was expensive by Bangkok standards, but I did not realise by how much.
I will take simpson's and eurotraveller's advice and have a beer in the Sky Bar.
As we are staying in the Shangri-la with two children, I will take rhkkmk's advice and dine with the children in Angelini.

Thanks everyone. My mind is made up now!!!

You will enjoy Angelini. I've dined there as well. I would agree, it is much better for children.

DO enjoy the beer and the view at the top of State Tower!!!

Hi, all.

We just arrived back from our trip to Thailand, etc., and I will post a short report when I'm not so jetlagged (it's getting better), but I wanted to respond to this. My husband and I decided to have a drink at the Skybar before dinner. We were dressed well, I believe - I was wearing a skirt, blouse and sandals and my husband was wearing nice slacks and a long-sleeved shirt. We were turned away because David was wearing sandals on his feet, so just a word of caution - no sandals for men.

You're right...I'm sure it would have been okay if he'd been wearing socks with the sandals, but he wasn't. It just never occurred to us that it would be a problem, and it was very hot that evening.
