Sheraton in Hong Kong

I'm going to be staying at the Sheraton for 6 nights in Jan. with a United air/hotel package I bought and was wondering if anyone has any room/floor recommendations? Are harbor view rooms only given to people who specifically order them? (I didn't have that option.) Thanks for any insights.

The Sheraton is a very good hotel, with a great location. Lots of shopping in and around the hotel (as if that weren't true everywhere in HK). I had an especially good meal in their Indian restaurant, but there's certainly no shortage of fine places to eat in the neighborhood.

A harbor-view room would add a great deal to your trip: there's nothing like looking out on the spectacular sight of HK Island from TST at night. Harbow-view rooms are typically available for a higher nightly rate, or sometimes as upgrades to elite members of Sheraton's frequent-guest program. If you can get a harbor-view for a reasonable extra amount when you check in (or by contacting the hotel in advance), you should consider taking it. However, you would really need to be on a higher floor (maybe 10 or 12 or higher), because the there are some buildings between the hotel and the harbor.

Whether or not you get a harbor-view room, you will be just steps from the promenade, a public walkway at the edge of the harbor. You can also get great views from the Lobby bar at the IC hotel or the Felix bar/restaurant at the Peninsula, both of which are across the street from the Sheraton.

Just to add to the great earlier reply - the hotel has just gone through a major renovation so the rooms are really nice now. Check out the bathrooms also - they are probably my favourite in the region now & the showers are fab.

We stayed at the Sheraton 3 years ago..It was a recommendation from a travel agent. We were skeptical...thinking it sounded too Western....turned out to be one of the nicest hotels on our trip through China. Like the other folks who responded, we found the location of the hotel to be perfect, and the staff extremely friendly and accomodating. Definately try to get a harbor view...awesome. Have a great time.

I'm interested in this place because of the description by rizzuto that mentioned walkway by the harbor. A coworker from H.K. mentioned the walkway. I've got to check the map at dicoverhongkong, but it sounds like the Sheraton is a block or so back from the harbor? (based on "steps away from the walkway, and buildings between hotel and harbor).

Anyway, I found it interesting when looking at rates on their webpage: when I chose the auto association discount, I got a much higher room rate that with no discount option selected. They have four types of rooms listed: harbor view and courtyard view, and either one or two beds.

When I selected the "Promotional Offers" discount, the web page listed a different type "Harbor View, Towers Level Rm". Is the hotel in one building or is there an adjacent tower?

Peter N-H, can you weigh in here, about this hotel? (btw, thanks for the answer about the tax)

I think there are 2 Sheratons in Hong Kong, one on the island and one in Kowloon. The Kowloon one is the one directly on the harbourfront with the fabulous views.

We stayed there for a week on honeymoon 2 years ago and would highly recommend it.

Only one Sheraton in HK. It's on Kowloon side.

My apologies. We stayed in the Shangri-la in Kowloon (which was excellent) and a Sheraton on Langkawi the following week. Please ignore my recommendation, I've not stayed in the Sheraton in Hong Kong. (Fancy getting my honeymoon hotels mixed up!)

It's great to hear the excellent reviews about the Sheraton. I did quite a bit of research and am glad we god a good package at this hotel. I am really curious what they might charge us to upgrade us to a harbour view room (thoughts, anyone?) I had a harbour view once in HK and it was so incredible--I could never get over the view it was so wonderful. Does anyone know if there are "bad" harbour view rooms there--like you need to be above a certain floor? Thanks again for the input.
