Thank you!
offwego..I'm standing by.
We're considering a trip that involves school visits a la Ponheary and School for Life (Chiang Mai) and we have to choose either August or December/January. The weather in August doesn't put us off at all...been to Thailand twice already in August. The prices in December/January - Christmas/New Year - are so much higher than August though, we'd love to do this in August if at all possible, but if school is not in session then it's just not going to be.

I'm waiting for an answer from Cambodia (sometimes takes a day or two) but I know for sure that school is not in session in August.
Sounds like August is ok for Thailand.
<inserting stream of consciousness here>
We are also going in August to make procurements for the upcoming school year (We as in two members of the PLF-www.theplf.org) and have some events planned at a few villiage schools which will be attended by teachers, community elders and LOTS of children. If you're keen to visit schools; this would be a great opportunity.
Even though school will not be officially in session, you will be at the school, with the kids and certainly be able to distribute donated supplies. We'll be in Siem Reap August 19-25. If you'd like to partake in any of these events, you are officially invited.

So it sounds like August wouldn't be a bad time. Unfortunatly, August 2007 is what we are thinking, as we are already spending this August in the US, though an Asia trip sounds so much better than a US trip, we must go to our famiies as they won't/can't come to us in. So now, we are working on Christmas plans...US or Asia? Hmmm...

This summer sounds like a great gathering though, and I'm privately disappointed to not be able to go. But I really, really want to see my 84 year old grandmother who is now recovering from a massive heart attack and subsequent bypass surgery...it's amazing that she's alive, and I don't want to miss this chance to see her, as much as SE Asia beckons.

I wasn't clear about it being for next year...living so far from family we tend to map out travel far in advance.
Hopefully then it'll work out for 2007. In August we have so much more time, too, than at Christmas.
Are you planning on going every summer? Wouldn't that be an awesome thing to look forward to every year.

We plan to go back for a couple of years. Hopefully after 2007 we'll have some volunteers in place to assume some logistics.
But Cambodia stole my heart. I can't imagine not going back. There are many other places in the country I'd like to visit as well.
Let's focus our hopes on meeting there in 2007!

It's a 90% sure thing trip for us in 2007...probably a 4 week trip for my daughter and I, and 2 of those weeks with my husband. My daughter has to do "summer vacation homework" in the form of some sort of project, and something like this would be perfect I think.

Kim, Ellen and family will be in Siem Reap Dec. 27-30, 2006. Have made plans to be with Ponheary those days. Great if you were there also. Bill and I will stay in Vietnam. SR too hot for us...once was enough.
