Royal Orchid Towers question

We will be visiting Bangkok for a couple days in April and I was planning on staying at the Royal Orchid using SPG points. Everyone has recommended the Tower rooms but what makes these rooms special? We are travelling with my two sons and they will share a room. The Tower rooms all seem to have a single King instead of two doubles/queens.

If DH and I had a tower room and the boys shared a "regular" room would they be far away from us? Any issues?

Deb-I just did exactly that with my son and his wife (see Trip Report-Gpanda). My wife and I stayed in a towers room, son and his wife in a deluxe. One had two doubles and one a king. The towersgives you access to the lounge on the 26th floor with breakfast, internet, happy hour and 6 pieces of free laundry per person per day. We paid with statwood points.

I just checked on the ROS site, and put in for 2 beds for 4/11-4/12. There were tower rooms with 2 double beds.

Maybe they were not available for the days you wanted. It may be helpful to email the hotel directly and ask for the 2 bed tower rooms.

I seem to remember that the regular floors went to the 16th fl, and the tower floors started on the 17th. So they don't have to be separated by much. But the elevators are different.

The towers rooms are on the top few floors; I believe it's floor 24 or 25 and higher. If your sons are not in the Towers, they won't have lounge access for breakfast or for evening cocktails and canapes (or the free laundry, which you'll appreciate). That's really the only issue I can think of in regard to having your sons in a regular room. They might end up many floors away from you, but I don't know that it's a problem.

Thanks for all your replies.

Jed, I checked the dates you mentioned and didn't see any tower rooms at all available. In fact, I've checked many dates and only see tower rooms available with king beds. Maybe you're looking at a different site? FYI, our dates in BKK are 4/1 through 4/3.

So... is there any way to get my boys into breakfast if they're in an "ordinary" room? It seems pointless to have the tower amenities for half our party.

Thanks for your help!

I believe you can pay extra to bring extra guests into the Club rooms. My guess is that it would make better economic sense to have your sons in a Towe4rs room as well.

I'd suggest that you call Starwood directly and ask your questions. I know in the past there were certainly Towers rooms with two double or queen beds.

I checked again, and indeed, for 4/1-4/2 there were no tower rooms.

However, for 4/11-4/12, as before, I found this:

2 Double Beds Towers Deluxe Room, River View, Towers Lounge Access, Continental Brkfst, Eve Drinks/Hors D Oeuvres Best Available Rate
Terms & Addt'l
Charges USD 185.00

[In fact, if you can prove either you or your chidren are seniors, ;-) you can get this discount:

2 Double Beds Towers Deluxe Room, River View, Towers Lounge Access, Continental Brkfst, Eve Drinks/Hors D Oeuvres Retired Person Rate - Non Refundable Advance Purchase Required. Non Changeable. Cancel Rules Apply.
Terms & Addt'l
Charges USD 110.50 (Can you believe that price?)]

Did you indicate 2 adults per room, and 2 double beds under bed type?

I wonder, if you asked nicely when you get there, that they would throw in breakfast for the kids.

Thanks, Jed. It's interesting that you see this because even now if I go to the SPG website, I can't pull tower rooms with 2 beds for the 4/11-4/12 dates.

I actually made our original reservation months ago. I spoke with a telephone rep who told me there were no tower rooms with two beds. I know I NEVER saw any online even when checking 11 months in advance.

I will call and see what Starwood advices. There's no point in DH and I having the tower room if our boys can't join us.

Jed, just realized if I request 2 double beds I see alot more choices than I did before including the tower rooms for 4/11. Strange that these don't show up if I indicate "no bed preference".

Thanks!

You're welcome. It appears to be poor website design that when you put in more restrictive search criteria you get more answers.

Like I told my kids - never assume!
