Royal Orchid Sheraton

In Travel and Leisure, the Royal Orchid Sheraton is listed as the 36th best hotel in Asia. The Marriott in Phuket is above, but the one on the river in BKK is notably absent. I can't tell you how much pleasure this gives me.

It also list the ROS as the fifth best hotel worlwide for under $250. Again, the Marriott is absent. How sweet is this? How petty am I?

LOL.

"How petty am I?"

The first time I read this, I read it as "How pretty am I?" Don't ask me what I thought Gpanda. ;-)

I've stayed at the ROS, and while it was not bad, I think I would seriously question the fifth place standing as best hotel worldwide for under $250.

I guarantee that the Alam Shanti in Ubud, Bali for $125 is a much better bargain.

I'm guessing that they are rating the Towers, a separate section of the hotel with lots of extra perks thrown in.

In the distant past, when the ROS was new, the ratings of the best hotel in the world used to alternate between the Oriental and the ROS Towers.

Were the Penn and the Shang even on this list or was this just designed to appease furry creatures and Seatlites?

Both the Pen and the Shangri-la were rated higher than the ROS.

5th on the list worldwide....now i have no faith in travel and leisure...

i can think of 5 hotels in needham that are better, and even one in cambridge...

oh, i'm back---i had to run to the bathroom to throw up....

actually its an ok hotel, just not very thai, and i probably would get a nose bleed way up in the towers rooms... i must also add that i have never been a sheraton fan, but i am loving their FF program and their cash and points deals---can't beat it...i will note that we think starwood FF guests are treated much nicer at meridiens than they are at sheratons...

marriott is so exclusive on the river that they actually make guests sign a document, prepared by a REAL attorney, stating that you will never vote for that hotel on any of these 'surveys', as they wish to keep the rif raf out of this splendid resort and spa, the only resort on the river i might add....

T+L once again proves itself to be a champion of mediocrity, the Honda Accord of indiscriminating travelers.

I have to admit that I'm no fan of T&L, but commenting on this was too good to pass up!

I've always wondered about these ratings. They're always highly suspect. Are there really hotels proclaiming

"We're number Five"?

Maybe everyone gets to stay at the ROS for free as do Beth and I. Starwood points are great.

It's just so perfect that a widely-read magazine has such a different opinion than the POB. It certainly calls into question the rest of his ridiculous opinions.

... well, T&L's "the world's best" ... highly suspect - at best ... (but can't resist) :

1) Singapore Airlines 90.22
2) Emirates 82.44

... (although, and please don't tell the SQ-forever wife: the TG BKK Royal Orchid F Spa has been a fine way to launch TG business flights to HKG and NRT -- and those CX HKG F lounges aren't bad) ...

... (and, in honour of the opening post concerning the ROS: easily one of my all-time favourite pre-mrs. m BKK business travel hotels: delightfully friendly -- and will always remember certain waitresses and hostesses) ... (mind you, most proper these days at the Four Seasons, Oriental, Peninsula and our little BKK love nest) ...

... as always, uplifting (SQ) times to all of you ...

... greetings, jasper ...

... "last post must be in a secret code...." ...

... (well, just spend a few years flying J for work with a certain Singaporean airline -- and those Girls) ...

... now, look forward to your thoughts of the TG BKK ROL F, relative to the SIN SKL F T3 -- and yes, the immortal SQ ICN SKL F ... and do remember to pass -- on the Lemongrass ... (Bangkok Regent period, mind you) ...

... savour your tender Asian times ... (and do remember those late-night, in-room massage treatments) ...
