Posting items boughtin Bangkok Back to Australia??

My daughter and I are heading to Bangkok in 5 weeks we plan on doing a large amount of shopping this time and are aware already that we will be overweight in luggage on our return We have thought of mailing some of the items back prior to leaving bangkok and if necessary mail frequent amts back
Any suggestions on where to go to do this?
Is it best to just go to a Post Office in Bangkok and mail from there? and do the post offices have boxes that we can buy for packaging?? Or would it be best to try and us a delivery company such as fedex or something similar?

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated

as i remember the general post office on new road between the sheraton orchid hotel and the oriental hotel has a packing department....

you might also check some of the air freight companies in bkk of which there are many....you might also ask in the larger shops who they use...

i posted 10 kilos from bkk last summer by air freight to usa for about $90 u.s....it came in 5 days...

one person i know who shipped a number of things via the post office lost quite a few items some time during shipping...

We posted several items from Phuket, by ordinary mail (not air) arrived no problems in 16 days. The parcel weighed around 5 kg and it cost around A$30 to post second class mail. I know your query is about posting from Bangkok, however we've posted from regional areas and found the Thai postal system works very well from Thailand to Australia.

We packed our own items in a 12 bottle wine carton size box & I believe we filled in a declaration of value for the items. Many of the items were simply "used clothing"! Have fun.

The main post office in New Road in Bangkok is very easy and of course there are many around the country - reliable.

Just beware of the things you do post back - wooden articles and the like will have customs opening them up to see if they need fumigating (at your expense). High value stuff will attract customs and GST. Usually they don't bother unless the value is over about $200A - it costs too much for them to worry about processing. Used clothes don't attract anything! So take things out of packets and take tags etc off.

I posted about 5 kilos back from Bangkok to the UK by surface mail last November. It cost about 1600 baht and I could have sent 6 kilos for the same charge. I was provided with a box which was then cut to size once I had packed all my stuff - that cost around 20 baht. The parcel took almost 2 months to get here, considerably slower than Lyndie's parcels to Aus.

I wonder if Lyndie encountered this, but there was a problem with me sending a parcel from myself to myself. They seemed to need a Thai address and my hotel adddress was not suitable. I couldn't quite get to the bottom of what the problem was but in the end putting my email address on the parcel sorted it out.

Hi kippy. I mailed the box to my sisters who lived close to my home. It was mainly stuff for them & their kids.

We were informed by Thai postal staff that the box could take up to 2 months to be delivered, however it arrived in 16 days over the very busy Australian Christmas period. I was most impressed with that kind of efficiency! Have fun!
