Lori, thanks, I just found it last night in my spam filter. By the way, you are in good company, Kuranosuke's email ended up in my spam filter as well! I will reply today.
Cheryl and I are hoping we can get together in Bangkok in November.

Hmmm... my spam filter is being too diligent.
Guenmai, I bought celadon in CM, but could have bought it in Bangkok - it's from Siam Celadon. HT bought the "bengarong(sp?)" (I don't know how to spell it either) and they purchased it in Bangkok at the factory.

Guen, there is a factory out by the floating market that makes Benjarong to order. We have also purchased pieces at a shop in River City which has an extensive selection. Ratt knows where the factory is and will arrange to ship your pieces when they are ready. I think this is the same one where HT purchased as well.

Thanks guys. I couldn't remember who'd bought celadon and who'd bought benjarong...since we're all such shoppers. Smiles.
I always thought that benjarong might be a bit too ornate for my place, but I was going through some of my design books the other week and some really beautiful benjarong plates are in one of my older design books from around 2000. They came from that place in Bangkok...you know...the design house...that's a bit out of Bangkok. I can't think of the name of it right now. But, it's the place that you have to call first for directions because it's so hard to find. Many of you have been to it.
So, I think it'll be fine and not too over the top if I just go for 6 perfect benjarong dinner plates, and possibly 6 salad plates ...that's the necessity for California....salad plates. I'm so excited...now I have another project to add to my already many projects. My mind just can't seem to rest. Smiles.

It just came to me...Naga House...is the place that I was trying to think of above. HT...about how much would it cost, per dinner plate...for a benjarong plate...approx. I've never looked at the prices since I never gave it much thought until I saw the plates in my design book. Happy Travels!

guen, Here is an excerpt from a previous post-
"The Royal family has alot of their porcelain pieces made here. In fact the design we ended up picking is one of the designs used by the king's family. We did not know this until we had made our decision. Our set totaled 38400 baht for the lot and 8210 baht for DHS delivery."
We had the six piece set which included dinner and salad plates and dessert plates, tea cups and saucers a tea pot and a sugar and cream containers with a spoon. They have all types and designs starting at about 200 US and up to 1200 or so. Ours is very ornate thus the cost.
If you have a family crest/ name insignia or any design you want bring it along as it is can be put on the back side of your porcelain. The whole process takes 6 months as they custom make the order. The delivery was 3 days after it was sent from the factory via DHS. I think they can also FEDEX but it is was more expensive.
Aloha!

Guen, we did not order place settings...Jeane already has a zillion sets of china. But we did order several other pieces. The wait was worth it, the quality is top-notch and they customized a piece for my mother-in-law's birthday. Be sure to observe the people in the "factory" when you are there - it will give you a great appreciation of the intricate detail involved.
