Photos-BKK, Cambodia, Laos, 12/05-01/06 (Tanuki)
Here are some pictures from my recent trip to BKK, Phnom Penh, Siem Reap, and Luang Prabang. I want to thank everyone here for all the great advice, tips, and suggestions, especially since it was my first time in Cambodia and Laos, and only my second time in BKK.

Joyce & Don - I am sure that we will post brief comments while there and provide a full trip report within a week of returning. I also plan to work on a Connecticut GTG after we return - look for an announcement on this forum some time early to mid-March.

tanuki, your photos are fantastic! What type of camera were you using? I am wondering if I should bring both my cameras but my 35 mm is so big compared to my simple digital.
Hey Craig? Was it you that is going to be in Bangkok at the same time as Peter and I? We will be there from Feb. 5-8 and then again from 24-26.

Craig, we are staying at the Davis Hotel for our last 2 nights.
Peter and I are going to meet up with Karen(althom1122) and her daughter to see the Lady Boy show at the Asia hotel. Care to join us? We will probably meet up for a drink before the show.

The 24th happens to be Jeane's birthday and I don't think the lady-boy show is at the top of her list - our plan was to do Peking duck at China House at the Oriental Hotel, followed by a drink at the Sky Bar afterward. It would probably be out of your way but if you wanted to meet us at the Oriental for a drink around 6-ish that might work.
We are staying at the Peninsula - too bad you won't be around the following week where we are at the Plaza Athenee, much closer to the Asia Hotel and the Davis.
We are open to any other ideas you might have. Which show are you going to? If you are going to the late one, the Sky Bar might even work.

Thanks very much to all of you for your nice comments! Eurotraveler, the camera I use is a Canon rebel t-i film camera, and all of the pictures were shot with a 70-200 zoom lens. I would suggest an additional lens with a wider angle for the temples of Angkor and any other big vista pictures. The rebel camera body is extremely lightweight, but the zoom lens does add bulk. It all fits in an ordinary cloth tote bag, with plenty of extra room, so it isn't all that intrusive.
Eezam, this was an independent, solo trip, informed by lots of fodor's trip reports! I am about halfway through writing my own trip report with the specifics of my itinerary, which you can find by clicking on my name (it is somewhat misleadingly labeled "in progress", since I was still on the road when I started it
). I did use the services of a local guide (Dara Ly) in Siem Reap, and I recommend him very highly.
