Peninsula airport transfers

I have emailed the peninsula re airport transfers and they have come back with $65 EACH WAY (although on other websites say its $66 return??) this i feel is very expensive.
As this will be our last day in BKK can anyone give me feedback on the airport desk limo service (basically want it to be quick and easy with minimal hassle so we can get into town asap and then return the next day for our flight home)or indeed if anyone has used the peninisula's service, what could they possibly included to require said fee?
Info appreciated
Thanks
Jane

I stay at the Peninsula when in BKK and have never used their limo service. I take taxis, which cost about $10-$15 each way if I remember correctly. The hotel will call you a regular taxi. Some others on this board use a limo service but I've never felt the need to do so. It's also easy to get a taxi at the airport to the Pen.

We have splurged twice on the limo service from the Penn. Yes, it costs, but it was really quite a treat. They drive Mercedes and Rolls Royce cars. The man who met us at the airport took our bags, called the driver in the limo, and by the time we were out the door, the car was there, waiting, with newspaper, cold water, cold cloth, etc. Quite a treat!!

yes that is expensive but that is what a 5* hotel commands....it is not only $65 probably, it is 65++....

a taxi would be about 400B plus 60B for toll road...limited space in taxi and you probably will have to stand in a line

AAC limo would be 800 B or $20 plus 60 B for toll road....

i paid 1440 B for a round trip with aac in may/june with their discount program for round trips...my trip was also to that side of the river...

it is easy to use AAC in the international terminal...i always book ahead....it is not necessary however...the advantage is that someone is standing with the other people with a sign with your name on it....you need to pay them in cash at their desk...

as you exit customs, turn left....follow signs for taxi....ignor all the people who ask to help you....keep walking until you come to the exit door for the taxi stand...you will see AAC on the left just inside the door...there are ATM's near by if you need them for cash...

somehow i think you are coming on a domestic flight....if this is the case, ignor what i said above and just go to one of the mini-offices in the lobby which are marked transportation/limo and request a limo to the penn....price should be about 800 B....each time i have ordered AAC limo for a domestic flight i have had a problem as they service the international terminal mostly and do not have a stand in the domestic terminal, but others do....my last domestic limo was a brand new toyota which was very comfortable and spotless...

Thanks for your replies
I have booked a limo with the oriental for my first arrival into BK (after a 12 hour flight thought it was necessary) that is $48nett t for some reason i thought the penn was cheaper ( even though i know its the other side of the river)
Not sure what to do now, dont want to be a scrooge but i really think $65 is a LOT (and we will have only come from Krabi) maybe i will take Bobs advice and just get one when we get there. Do you have a long wait does anyone know or are there a fleet of them when you get there?
Actually we are going out of BK domestic to CM maybe i could prebook one then? any recommendations of companies?

Thanks guys

When we were there last month we had the Peninsula pick us up in their van (there are 6 of us). It cost $50. I knew that I could do it cheaper, but we were arriving early in the morning and I guessed/hoped that if the Peninsula actually knew we were arriving that there was a better chance that our room might be available. I don't know if having them pick us up is what did the trick (and certainly they would have to have space available in any event) but we were met right at the car, were shown directly to our room, which had been upgraded and where fresh squeezed orange juice and other breakfast was waiting for us. I doubt if any of that would have happened had they not known we were arriving.

The Oriental limo is something like $46. I'm surprised that the Penn is so much higher. I tend to use the Oriental whenever I come in from America -- figure the amount of extra money is well worth it for the luxury and convenience after a long flight.

I gotta' agree with you on that one. Yes, the lux after a long flight is really nice. But I'll take my limo to the Penn.

I've never minded taking a taxi but I guess next time, I'll have to take a limo just to see what I'm missing. I'd rather spend the money on other things but maybe just once...

I usually just use the airport limo service. We always have enough luggage that it's worth it! As noted, you can arrange for pickup at your hotel for the return to the airport.

I've never booked the limo ahead of time for when I arrive. There are always plenty of cars available and no line when I arrive about midnight.

We have stayed at the Pen for a number of times - usually we just take an ordinary taxi there and back - quick and easy - cost about 300 to 350 bt plus 60 bt for the tolls at busy times.

However this year there were enormous lines waiting for the taxis at the airport (they are having a few problems there) so we went to the limo desk at the airport - cost 650 to the Pen plus 60bt tolls - it was immediate, absolutely no wait - a very nice roomy car and good driver. We booked them to pick us up to go back to the airport - again on time, good driver, very efficient - 650bt plus 60bt tolls. Even a lot of help to unload the bags and get trolleys and into the building at the airport. The really big advantage of this over an ordinary taxi is the room. We often have 3 cases plus hand luggage by the time we are heading back to the airport. Taxis don't have much room and a lot have gas cylinders in the boot making it even more difficult.

I would find it hard to justify the Pen transport but they do have nice cars - the limos is a very good compromise indeed.
