Hi Joe in Portland! I am leaving on that tour on April 12th. Unfortunately we will be overlapping, but I would like to hear your takes on the trip after you return and I will post a report also. Did you find out if anyone dropped out--you can e-mail PDT and they will respond and let you know how many will be on the tour with you.
Felicia

We did the 21 day trip in July 2002. It was the most fantastic experience of our lives! Our tour guide--Herb--was by far the best. Some advice:
1. If you don't want to spend your time washing clothes with woolite, etc., save dirty laundry for the cruise. It was cheap (compared to hotels).
2. Refill your bottled water with the "boiled water" in your hotel rooms.
3. Make friends with people on your tour as soon as possible. Many are seasoned travelers and will have good advice.
4. Be early for the bus each morning.
5. If you want to do something not on your itinerary, ask your tour guide. S/he can help you arrange it--cheap. (We wanted to see the Beijing Opera, but it wasn't on our tour--the cab was $5 round trip and the theater tickets were less than $10)
