Hello, this June, I am flying on a business visit to Toyohashi from India. I prefer singapore airlines, but nothing connects well to Chubu intl airport. So, finally decided on going to Narita and taking the train to Toyohashi. Now the questions:
- My flight from Singapore reaches Narita at 17:40. Where is the nearest train station to Toyohashi?
- Can I reserve my tickets to Toyohashi online or is it ok to buy one at the station?
- I understand that it takes 90 mts to reach Toyohashi from Tokyo. Is it correct?

At Toyohashi, what are the must see sight seeing places? I will probably have one day time to explore this place.
Is Nagoya far away from Toyohashi? I understand its the cultural capital of Japan!
I have been to Kobe and Kyoto last year. Hence, would like to restrict myself only to Toyohashi and may be Nagoya.

The train station is at the airport. You will have to take a train called the Narita Express to Tokyo station or Shinagawa station, and then take another train to Toyohashi. Shinagawa is the preferred changing point because it is much easier to navigate than Tokyo station.

It will take you about 65-80 minutes to go from Narita to Tokyo/Shinagawa, then another 90 minutes or so to Toyohashi, exclusive of waiting times.

You can get all timetable info at www.hyperdian.com. You do not need to reserve in advance if you are traveling in June.

How about going around Toyohashi and my questions on Nagoya.

Chubu airport is normally called Nagoya (code NGO) or Centrair. It is
an excellent, modern airport with direct train connections (Meitetsu,
not JR). There are nonstop flights from Singapore to Nagoya on
Singapore Airlines.

Toyohashi is Japan's largest port. I've not been there but there
seems to be a castle and a park:

I wouldn't call Nagoya a cultural capital, its the industrial center
of Japan and was bombed flat in the war so there's nothing ancient
there. It has excellent train connections and is a very convenient
base for exploring interesting places nearby. If you click on the
Nagoya link on the page above it'll identify the main places: Inuyama
(one of the 4 NT castles in Japan, and a famous tea hut), Meijumura
(Meiji-era buildings from all over Japan in one place, plus part of
Frank Lloyd Wright's Imperial Hotel), Gifu (cormorant fishing), Kiso
Valley (a popular walk on the old Tokyo Nakasendo path between Magome
and Tsumago), Ise (the most sacred Shinto shrines--you are not allowed
to see them--but still a good trip), and Takayama (a popular
destination on this board). In Nagoya itself, the Atsuta shrine is
worth a visit (same architecture as Ise). The castle is a concrete
reconstruction. You can also go up to lake Biwa (another NT castle at
Hikone, and major temples at the south end--Ishiyamdera, and others
whose names I forget).

The reason why I can't fly into Chubu is coz my Indian connection to SG does not help

I can recommend going to Inuyama to see the castle and visit the tea house and garden. The tea house is enroute to the castle and both are an easy walk from the train station.

Gifu has an interesting castle, though a reconstruction, in a lofty perch. I visited there after Inuyama on a day trip, returning to Nagoya.

Flying into Osaka might be better than Tokyo.

Nagoya has a pretty good baseball team. You will be a month early for the sumo tournament, tho.

I have already booked my tickets to Tokyo. Cant change that now.

Toyohasi is only 21 minutes away from Nagoya via the Hikari or Kodama shinkansen train. See www.hyperdia.com for train schedules and times.

Nagoya has a beautiful castle and shopping area. Just across the street from the castle is the Nagoya Noh Theater where you can catch a play if interested and if your there on the right day. The Tokugawa Art Museum is worth your time and will take up at least a half day. The gardens surrounding the art museum are worth a trip by themselves. Lots to do in Nagoya.

Since you have already been to Kobe you might want to try the Hida beef in Nagoya. Look for restaurants who serve it.
