Looking for hotel recommendations

My husband and I are taking our two children, ages 11 and 7, to Japan for 2 weeks in April. Part of our trip is a 7 day train trip. We got our itinerary from the book 'Japan by Rail'. We will have 2 nights in Kyoto, 2 nights in Hiroshima, 1 night in Miyajima and 1 night in Hakone. We are looking for hotel recommendations in any of these cites. We are open to western style, ryokens or pensions. Thanks in advance for any advise you can offer.

Hi Kirsten- What sort of budget are you looking at for your hotels each night- $100,$200, sky's the limit?

And will you spend the other week in Tokyo?

There are so many choices and budgets, it helps to narrow them down for us!

$300/night is our goal (or less), for all 4 of us. We're willing to splurge one night at a nice ryoken. Thanks - Kirsten

I'd recommend the Fujiya Hotel in Hakone. If you show a foreign passport, you can get a very special rate, especially during weekdays. It's an old historic hotel and very popular with tourists. The location is really scenic too.

You can try to Priceline the hotels too. I got the 4 stars Crowne Plaza in Tokyo for ~$100USD a night. It's in Ikebukura (sp?) which has a major subway/train hub that can take you to anywhere.
