The Chedi is wonderful and secluded. The views of the Andaman Sea are spectacular.

Your choice is wide open, depends entirely on what you want to spend, rates are from $10 to $1,000. Give me your price range and whether you want busy or quiet.

My husband and I just returned from our honeymoon in Thailand and we stayed at the Chedi which is right next to the Amanpuri only a fraction of the cost. We absolutely loved it. Rather than hotel rooms everyone has their own bungalow up on the hill with wonderful views of the Sea. It's very private around this area unlike what you will get if you stay near Patong. Here is a link to the website

Try Karon Beach resort, absolute beachfront at the far end of Karon Beach, if you want cheap last minute deals and promotion rates try this local Phuket site, reliable and good prices, also fast confirmations, I would check the reviews also and then book 3 or 4 places as Phuket is quite busy now, they have all the beaches including Kata and Karon, rates from about $20 upwards

If you want to go straight to prices and promotions then cut and plaste this rather long link, but it does take you straight to the prices and details, I guess about 60+ properties.

I highly recommend the Boathouse on Kata. Excellent service, outstanding food, and the finest wine cellar in Thailand.

I also would recommend the Chedi, although there isn't too much nearby the hotel if you are looking to be in a place where lots of things are within walking distance. I've heard good things about the Boathouse and the Marina (cheaper) on Kata, and I'm guessing there is more within walking distance there--but I've never been there myself. I thought planetholiday.com was a good site for booking.

I second chicagoatty. The Boathouse is wonderful! Their new property, the Villa Royale, is awesome! Very secluded, very quiet, and the villas are superb.
