langkawi island

We are looking at hotels in langkawi and want a moderate hotel with a really good swimming pool for travel in Jun/Jul. We like to eat out at different places at night so a hotel that is handy to small restaurants. Any great ideas?

The Sheraton Perdana has 2 good pools and is only about 5 minutes by taxi to Kuah town, so it's handy for local restaurants and the night market.

I'm still a Pelangi Resort supporter. It has a great Thai restaurant, there are not a huge number of restaurants on Langkawi but it is very easy to get around and it remains a great place where driving is very easy and relaxing, it is quite safe driving around and roads are generall quiet, this gives you the chance to explore. The Pelangi has an excellent Thai restaurant with Thai chefs, also several other eateries. Kuah Town has some and there are the other resorts like the 2 Sheratons and others with good restaurants.
I forget the name of this place, hope someone can chip in and give the name: If you go south from Centai area ( pelangi etc ) and take the road past Holiday Village it goes to a kind a Marina Place where there are a couple of nice restaurants, it is modern but very nice at night with the boats, sorry, forget the name but it's quite famous so maybe someone else knows what it is called.

The Pelangi Beach has 2 fantastic swimming pools and some great restaurants which are very reasonably priced. Just down the road (turn right out of hotel and on the left side), 5 mins walk, you'll find a couple of good restaurants. Just down the beach are a couple more. Overall, Langkawi isn't that built up so you don't get the choice you do in Thailand but the Pelangi has a very extensive menu. You won't get bored! Its also a good idea to hire a car. You can then drive up to the shopping area by the cable car where there is a good Japanese restaurant among others. Its about 15 mins away.
