OBX - Hatteras Island motels & restaurants

Has anyone stayed at the Breakwater Inn (formerly Harbor Motel), Outer Banks Motel, and Buxton Beach Motel? We're looking for places to stay w/our dog and these look pretty good, but I can't find many reviews.

Also, any suggestions for restaurants etc. there? We're familiar with the Nags Head area but not with Hatteras Island. Thanks for any recommendations!

I don't know those motels, but since at least one of them must be in Buxton, I have a restaurant suggestion. Well, I'm not sure if restaurant is the right word, but the Orange Blossom Bakery has great donuts and pastries. Someone from my group always makes a run down from Avon or even Rodanthe for apple uglies, but you have to get there early. I'm afraid if I ever stayed in Buxton though, I'd be there every morning.

Thanks, milford88! I had actually already seen a post--it must have been from you--about that bakery and the apple uglies and made a note of it. We love good bakeries! Thanks!

The Orange Blossom is a great place. An excellent restaurant, a little outside od Buxton, on the main road (are there any other roads?), is The Quarterdeck. At the end of the road, at the ferry, is an area with good restaurants, and a nice bakery. I can't recall the name, but it has good baked goods, great coffe, and a nice waterview.

Hodad's Cafe in Avon is good. It is laid back and they have good food. Get bakery from the Gingerbread House in Frisco. Thay used to have the most amazing apple fritters, I don't know if they still make them. I didn't care for the Pickled Steamer or the BBQ place that is by the food lion in Avon but it might have just been something I got. Also, Diamond Shoals which I believe is in Buxton is pretty good.
