Kansai airport to Momodani station

Hi! I would like to know how to get to Momodani station from Kansai airport via train because our accommodation is in Ikuno-ku Osaka. Could we buy tickets at the airport? Thank you in advance for your help.

Take either the Limited Express Haruka or the JR Kansai Airport Rapid Service, changing at Tennoji to the Osaka Loop Line to Momodani. The Rapid Service has no seat fee (= no reservation required).

Will you have a JR rail pass? If so, use that. If not, get a Suica (prepaid travel card) and use that (though you would need to pay the seat fee separately for the Haruka). If none of that makes any sense, please ask! Knowing your itinerary etc. would be helpful to providing more precise advice.

Hi tt7, can I get the Suica card in the airport? Would probably arrive in Kansai airport around 9pm.

You can get it from a ticket machine. There are various videos on YouTube explaining how to do it - see
and
for example. You can also find more information here, here and here.

You can top up the card at ticket machines and use it on trains and buses, as well as at vending machines and convenience stores. Note that the ticket machines only take cash.

If you get the Haruka Express from the airport, there is a fare supplement (seat fee). You cannot pay this with the card and need to do it at a ticket machine or ticket office. The JR Kansai Airport Rapid Service to Tennoji takes about 49 minutes, whereas the Haruka Express takes 32 minutes. The fare on either train is ¥1,060 and the supplement for the Haruka Express is another ¥1,170.

Train times that are relevant to you are as follows -

Train times from Kansai Airport to Tennoji

Use your JR Pass

irenyka, I now see that in another thread you state that you will have a JR Pass. If that's the case, just use the JR Pass for the trip from Kansai Airport to Momodani. You may still want to get a Suica card as you can use it for any non-JR trains (including the subway in Tokyo), buses, convenience stores etc.

While you can get a Suica card before you leave for Japan from some vendors (as linked to above), Suica is a JR East card, and if you land at KIX you will more commonly see the sale of Icoca cards. Usage-wise there is no real difference - for most major railways and most buses in the bigger cities they are interchangeable, again as noted in one link above. You could also get a Pasmo card before you leave, which unlike the other cards has the advantage of refunding the entire balance to you without any handling charge, provided you refund it in the Tokyo area (which is the only area you can get it refunded).
