I enjoyed reading and it took make back to some of my own similar experiences with Vertical Explorers last year. Highly recommendable! Excellent reporting-Pakistan Northern part is the most beautiful place I have ever been. I spent four weeks there last year - trekking K2 and Nanga Parbat base camps and travel/rest days.
K2 bases camp and Nanga Parbat is incredible but it takes at least two weeks to complete it.
The whole time in Pakistan I felt incredibly safe - the locals are some of the loveliest people and will go above and beyond to make you feel welcome.

I am planning on visiting Pakistan for the first time in June. I have not booked a single thing but I like to plan my trips early.

During this time I would like to complete a trek. From my research I have concluded that the K2 Trek is the one I would like to do but I had a few questions:

1) I understand a permit is needed for entering the region ($50US. Am I able to purchase this permit myself or must I go through a trekking company?

2) Are any other permits needed?

All trekkers to K2 base camp must go through a tour outfit. No independent trekking is allowed there.

If you like shorter hike than K2, One must opt for K7 base camp to view glacier and natural beauty.

I'm considering a trip to K2 Gondogoro la next year. My concern is the level of fitness necessary to cope with the trekking. My only problem with very uneven terrain. Can anyone let me know how difficult the trail is and an idea of how much time is spent trekking. any tips or recommendations that you can offer would be greatly appreciated.

The only way to get ready to walk uneven trails is, surprise, walk and run uneven trails. If one has never walked and run in a uneven trail in his life, the muscles and nervous system just can not cope with it without undue tiring.In 2015 I did the K2 base camp trek, with no AMS problems at all, not even a mild headache.so my view is the more time you have, the better.Also many apparently fit (gym training etc) young urban wealthy Asians reporting surprisingly slow and difficult trekking along the standard trails.

Gondogoro Pass opened this year in June and no more Liaison Officer requirement and security clearance required. I did this trek and had the most amazing vista on the trail at Gondogoro pass of all peaks at the dawn time in July.
