Internet cafes in Bangkok
Are there Internet cafes around Bangkok?
What do they charge?
Can one do e-mail from them?
Can I recieve e-mails at these cafes and access the responses at a later time/date?

if your staying in a hole in the wall dump in khao san it may have a internet accesible computer.
prices are all over the place from 1 baht a minut too 25 baht an hour.
well I've yet to see an internet cafe as in europe but there are many internet shops/outlets in malls travel agencies and back alleys.
the internet kind of works the same anywhere on earth. that why computers are interconnected too serve us as e-mail and porn dispensors. while they plot our demise

i have found that many of the hotel centers are very outdated and the service is very slow and comparitively expensive...
there are many internet sites around town...just look for small signs along the street...
my favoirite is on soi 4, sukhumvit road, about 1 block behind the gas station (which is on the corner of the soi and sukhumvit) on the same side of the street...i think they charge 50B for 15 minutes (about $1.20)..they also have a package you can buy...their eqpt is fast and reliable...there are plenty of comfortable seats as well...very business-like....i used another one one day in a bowling alley up sukhumvit rd maybe around soi 39 or so....
you will have no trouble finding many to assist you..
i have aol so i just sign on to my own site and do whatever i want...the only good thing about aol...i can get my address book too...
may i suggest that you take a copy of the addresses you may want to contact with you...
when are you going to thailand...you have been asking questions for months???

if you bring a laptop you can go too a 7-11 and pick up a internet accces card. you just follow the instructions and log in at your hotel/apartment.
there are many kinds of cards some offer 15 hours for 100 or so baht. I have READY CLICK which gives me 15 days of unlimited use for basicly $3 but the server is way too slow and loging on can be a pain in some hours.

Bill, it sounds like you need to learn how to retrieve your email from the world wide web. Almost all email providers provide web access to your email account. So you should be able to use your current email account. If getting your email on the web from your current provider is problematic, you can set up a hotmail or yahoo account.
There are internet cafes "everywhere" in Thailand, and probably every place else I've visited lately. (Yes, Orgy, they do exist in Europe. Indeed, I used internet cafes in Amsterdam 7 years ago. On my last trip to brussels, I sued the busines center in my hotel for free access.)
By the way, I haven't had the problems with internet access in hotel business centers that Bob reports. The connections have always been fast, and the computers up to date. Indeed, at a number of hotels in Thailand, the internet access is free (The Towers Lounge at the Royal Orchid has free internet access, for instance.)

Kathie. na. I meant internet cafee as in a place where europeans in black shirts and pants sip cofee, type away on how Americans are stupid and smoke cigs, all at the same time.
yep I've been too europe plenty and seen the internet cafees, ironicly in Amsterdam I did not go too an internet cafe but did patron a diffrent kind of cafe
Yes my grammer, spelling and some of my content is remedial too say the least.

To Rhkkmk:
We will be in Bangkok from 4/22 thru 4/30. I do a lot of research for our trip- about 6 months in advance. I will post a trip report when I get back.
Staying at the Penn (of course-where else!). Flying EVA Air deluxe Evergreen Class.
