So how, exactly, does the redemption process work for the free nights?

Now you don't have to worry about breakfasts or upgrades at Hyatt. All included in your Diamond status

Aloha!

Within a few days after you've spent $1000 on the card, the 2 free nights will show up in your Gold Passport account online. You then have to call customer service to make the reservation using the award. (Unlike redeeming award w/points, which you can do online.)

Congrats on the existing Plat status and new diamond status.

Looking at various blogs, it appears that I DON'T get Diamond status--just 2 suite upgrade certificates (that cannot be used in combination with the free nights.)

I'm confused. I cannot find anything official on this

I looked over the T&Cs for the current offer, and I don't see anything about Plats being upgraded to Diamond. The offer has changes a few times recently; I'm not sure if this is a change, or if the Plat -> Diamond offer never existed in the first place.

If you were planning to stay at the PH in Tokyo and HR in Kyoto, it will be easy enough to use the free nights @ 1 and the sweet upgrades @ the other.

When I applied at the end of January, it said Plats get Diamond. There are several different offers out there. I haven't gotten my card yet, but I need to make sure I got the right one - the one that allows you to stay at ANY Hyatt, not just cat 1-5.

Yes, there were at least two offers around about 4 weeks ago -- 1 offered 2 free nights but only at cat 1-4, and the other offer was for any Hyatt. Some offers also included a $100 statement credit, others didn't. I'd suggest that anyone applying for the card read carefully the T&Cs (click on "Offer Details") before submitting the application.

My offer which has been confirmed in an acceptance e-mail was for 2 free nights at any Hyatt and then 1 free night at a category 1-4 each year that I am a member. Also I gain Platinum status (up from Gold) as long as I am a cardmember, which doesn't get me much more than free Internet access. I believe (although it has not yet been confirmed since I was accepted) that I will get a $100 statement credit.

Craig,

As a Plat member along with free internet you also get an upgraded room at check-in if available(always ask) and a dedicated Plat, Diamond check-in area. A late check out of 2:00 pm, 15% point upgrade, award certificates for every third stay and in Japan service almost equal to that of a Diamond member......not like here in the US. I have always been given an upgraded room as a Plat in Japan Hyatt's even at the ever crowded Hyatt Kyoto. Much better than being gold.

Aloha!

So if one redeems this free 2 night offer (at a "standard room" rate) does that still allow the Platinum membership benefits I currently hold for a room upgrade valid? Or am I stuck with the standard room?

It's free, so I'm not complaining. Just curious how it works.

I received my credit card yesterday. Since it said nothing about where the two free nights are, I called the phone number on the card. The customer service rep said that the card gives me two free nights at any Hyatt in the world for signing up (and spending $1000) but that my annual "reward" was one free night, Cat 1-4. She said all the cards (now, anyway) offer the two free nights anywhere, the confusion comes from teh annual reward. She also said it will take 10-12 days after nhitting the $1000 spending level for the free nights to show up in my Gold Passport account.

My annual fee is $75, no statement credit.
