We stayed in Hua Hin last November at a hotel but we are returning next month and wondered if anyone can suggest a guest house or small cheap hotel in Hua Hin. Near to the town and beach if possible, something clean and simple. Thank you so much.<BR><BR>Lucy

The Pala-u guest house in Hua Hin sounds like it is what you are looking for. About 150 metres past the Sofitel on the road towards the Marriott. Last time I paid 750 baht for a double room with air conditioning, private shower. Although a guest house it is just like a small hotel. Very friendly, I would guess about 15 rooms. Good value for money and although so close to the center of Hua Hin and the beach it is quiet. Nice restaurant and bar too. Not sure if they have website, just search on Google for Pala-U Guest House Hua Hin and I'm sure something will come up.

Thank you so much, looks perfect. They have offered us USD 19 for a double inclusive sound so cheap, will let you know how it goes when we visit. Any ideas for cheap places in Malaysia.

There are plenty of sites for cheap hotel rates for Malaysia. Local operators seem to have bettwe deals with more up to date listings ( on theose 'large' sites I have seen hotels listed that closed years back! ). What particular destinations were you looking for, I can give you tips from personal stays on Langkawi, Penang, KL, Johor.

No information re guest houses but I would like your input on the benefits of going to Hua Hin. myron---hua hin is about 2.5 hours from bkk by car...a boring ride...you can go by taxi, private limeo car, bus or train and one flight per day as well....we stayed at the marriott resort....it is very nice and close enough to town to walk or take a tuk-tuk...<BR><BR>where did you decide to stay in bangkok?? we communicated earlier...<BR>have a blast...<BR>bob

Take a taxi cab from Bangkok or if you are on a budget the air conditioned express bus, taxis are faster, bus is about 3 hours.<BR>Hua Hin is 'very' different from Pattaya or Phuket. It is more sedate, very clean, no hustlers of any kind. The beach is not so glorious but it makes up for it by being very wide and very long, it is not crowded at all.<BR>The shopping is interesting and the service in the restaurants and bars is very very friendly, there is no pressure from anyone at all. It is busy but more naturally Thai. The old part of town near the piers has streets of old wooden Thai houses, small little shops. My only negative comment is that in the center near the Hilton there seem to be so many Italian, German and Scandinavian restaurants which was a shock compared to other Thailand resorts, when we just wanted nice Thai food, but you can find lots of Thai food away from that area. You can go to the Primlai and catch your own prawns and then they cook for you, it is across from the railway station.<BR>We are going again very soon and it is now much more popular.
