How long is ride from central Tokyo to Narita?

This may be already posted but I can't find it in a search.

What is the best way to get from a hotel in the national government area to Narita? How muc time should I allow?

Thank you.

I think the Narita Express from Tokyo station is a good option. It takes aprox. 1 hour to get to Narita on the train. By taxi, you'll need at least 1 hour, often more and it is very expensive!

You can take a taxi from where you are to Tokyo station.
Narita is a crowded place. I'd suggest that you reach there about 2 hours prior to departure. I've found the security check to be very long as well as the passport control area.

It is ~ 90 minutes. Narita Express is a very good option, it takes you from the hotel directly to airport ; it costs ~ 30 US$. We reserved places in advance, from the reception of the hotel.

We discovered, to our embaresment, that the Narite express is a reservation only train.
We squeezed on anyway, but I'm sure the only reason we didn't get scolded is we were gaigin.

I prefer the limosine bus that stops and picks up at several major Tokyo hotels and goes to Narita, because the driver will load you luggage on the bus and get it off for you. That is much more convenient than trudging your own luggage to and through Tokyo station (or whatever other stations) to get the Narita Express train. Cost is equivalent to about $30 one way and it takes about 90 min. from central Tokyo I believe (it took closer to 1 hr 50 min to/from western Tokyo, on other side of city from airport).

It depends on what hotel are you staying at because it may or may not be on (or in close provimity to) the bus pickup route.

OOOps, what a shame for me! I was refering to the bus, but i named it as Narita express. I can imagine Ange's reaction reading in my message that it take you from the hotel, when he / she knows that this is a train.
Sorry for this!

Give yourself a lead time of 4 hrs before departure. That is 2hrs to reach & 2 hrs at the airport.I cut it fine & almost missed my flight in the bargain.
The Taxis are a rip off.

Hi

My wife and I went to Tokyo last year and you can see my trip report on http://gardkarlsen.com/japan_tokyo.htm . We used the Narita Express to get from the airport to town. When we went to the airport by the Airport Limousine bus as it was stopping right outside our hotel.

Regards

Luisah, it depends on several factors.
Both Narita Express (JR train) or limousine bus are reservation only.

Take Narita Express if 1) you travel light, or 2) you're flying out at the peak travel time (eg 28-30 Dec, or Golden Week in April), or 3) your hotel is near the beginning of limousine bus "loop" where the bus will be making lots of stops.

Take limousine if you're travelling with much luggage, don't feel like navigating through Tokyo station, limousine bus not making too many stops afterwards.

I would give 90minutes for both options. Also check the service frequencies. 2hrs check in before the flight time.
