hotels in Singapore-1st time there

We are ending a cruise in Singapore and wonder if we should stay 1 day or 2. Cannot stay longer. Where is the best location to see the most sights? We have never been to Singapore.

What is your budget? Singapore is quite compact and ( depending on what you want to see and your budget) would depend which hotel. But really the MRT is so easy to use ( and fairly cheap) you can get around easily.
For a splurge, try Raffles, fabulous service and a great hotel.
A lot of people like the Marina Bay Sands complex.
I think the Fullerton Bay hotel has one of ge best rooftop bars ( don't confuse it with The Fullerton - which is still a nice hotel though)

I love the location of the Fairmont, atop a shopping center and the MRT, across the street from Raffles.

We stayed at the Intercontinental last trip. It was very nice, but it was so oriented to the business person, we didn't enjoy it as much as we have enjoyed other hotels in Singapore.

I also vote for the Fairmont Hotel as that's where I stay when I'm not staying at the YMCA International House on Orchard Road. I also love staying at the "Y".

And as for how many days to stay, I'd definitely vote for 2.

Happy Travels!

From what I gather, Orchard Rd. is the place to be? Since we are there 2 days I want a very central location, near good shopping and museums.

Singapore is SMALL. The whole country is less than half the size of L.A. County. And Singapore central is really small.

There's the super efficient MRT (subway) and taxis are inexpensive. I've been to Singapore, for vacation, quite a lot. The MRT station is right underneath the Fairmont Hotel area. It couldn't be easier. And there's the nice Chjmes complex across the street and underneath the Fairmont Hotel area is also the underground, air conditioned, passage way/mall where you can walk to other areas, like Esplanade Concert Hall and that area.

As for Orchard Rd, yes, it's the hub. But, there are many other areas that I much prefer over busy Orchard Rd. I recommend visiting the Asian Civilization Museum and that area. There's also the Paranakan Museum and restaurant. Neither museum is on Orchard Rd., but easy to get to, by MRT or taxi, from the Fairmont Hotel or about any Singapore central location.

I recommend getting an MRT map to familiarize yourself. I'm sure they can be found online.

Happy Travels!

The Fairmont Hotel is above the City Hall MRT line (red line).

The YMCA International House Hotel is next to the Dhoby Ghaut MRT line (red line)

The Asian Civilizations Museum is walking distance from the Raffles Place MRT line (red line)

The Orchard Rd. (centrally located) MRT station is at the Orchard MRT line (red line)

The Somerset MRT stop is also along Orchard Rd. I have walked, many times, from the YMCA International House Hotel (1, Orchard Rd.) to the more central MRT station area of Orchard Rd. It's not that far.

Happy Travels!

If you want to be on (or almost on) Orchard Road, I recommend the Hyatt, a half a block off of Orchard Road. But I do find the Fairmont location handier. The most important measure of location in Singapore is proximity to an MRT station.

I agree, Kathie about the Fairmont. It's very handy with the MRT being right there, along with it being attached to a shopping mall with restaurants/eateries/supermarket etc....and then, of course underneath all of that , another mall, the City Link Mall with more eateries, shops, and the ability to connect to other areas of Singapore but by walking underground.

mcbg1: And I've found the Fairmont's beds as comfortable as beds at various Four Season hotels. I didn't want to get out of bed. LOL!

Two cents here for the Fullerton. Not as near Orchard Road as others but adjacent to the MRT and a very pleasant 2 minute walk to all the fabulous restaurants along the southern Quay of the river. And about the same or less to The Padang.

I've also stayed at the Fullerton and loved my stay there. I also really like that area that it's in and the fact that it's a walk across the bridge from the Asian Civilizations Museum. But, out of the two hotels, I still personally prefer the Fairmont.☺
