Bill...I stay up very late.My body has always been on a late schedule...even in childhood. When most people are asleep...like midnight to 2AM or later... many times I'm wide awake... and usually productive...whether at home or away from home. I like to be able to turn on the TV...from bed...and watch the news or other programs at anytime of the AM. So, the Sukothai might have to be crossed off the list. Happy Travels!

This is a long overdue thank you to all of the posters.
I was reading some of my old threads, and found this one.
The Four Seasons was better than perfect. We loved it!!!!
We were fortunate to get one of their Cabana rooms, and it was beautiful, and the size of a suite.
We had our private patio (flowers changed daily),large grassy area, and beautiful pond right outside our door.
A tropical paradise in the middle of a concrete jungle.
We are going back to Bangkok next January, just to stay at the hotel.
The location was perfect for us as well.
The tips about the extreme heat were also well heeded, as I was prepared with my lightest weight clothing.
You are great!!!
Thank you all again
Bev

Glad it worked out for you. Bangkok is an amazing city. Four Seasons is in the "heart" of it all. Many here prefer staying on the river, but I, like you, enjoy being in the middle of all the activity. I've not stayed at Four Seasons but I've dined there.

So, what were your favorites in BKK? Care to share any? (restaurants, shopping, sights)

Glad you loved the Four Seasons...my home-away-from-home hotel. I'm sure you will make many returns to Bangkok. It's such a great city. Happy Travels!

We loved the Royal Palace and visited (I am sure every historical site in Bangkok.
Did all the tourist things, rented a car and driver and went to the floating market, River Kwai, and the tiger sanctuary.
Hugging a tiger was he biggest thrill of the trip for me.
Our favourite restaurant (and we ate at several fine hotel dining rooms) was Sonboom.
The variety of seafood was dazzling.
The best abalone that I have ever eaten.
Prawns so large that 4 prawns covered an entire serving platter, a fish cooked at the table, etc.
It was very reasonable, somewhere around $45. and we had several other dishes as well..
We almost left when we realized that there about 4-5 levels, thinking that this would be a dud, so glad we didn't.
Ate at a night market, and tasted many dishes, and it was fun as well.
The rest of the meals were good, but not equalling Sonboom.
I loved the River City antique mall, and did send home several purchases.
They were very organized, arranged the shipping, reasonable, and everything arrived quickly and safely (unlike the Paris flea market which I still love), but shipping is expensive and complicated.
Next year I will be pestering everyone here again as we are adding Vietnam, and possily Burma to the trip.

It's probably Somboon Seafood. There are several locations. I've eaten at one, and YES it was EXCELLENT.

erly
I wonder if you purchased from my friend at River City. He has two antique shops on the 4th(?) floor there. Very excellent items for sale.

Bob, I don't know if Samboon Seafood was ever at River City. Brad says it is possible because it is a chain (in BKK). The one we tried, with a group of Thai friends, was in the Sathorn area. It's almost all Thais there. The food and service are wonderful.

Sorry,
I didn't have my notes, and it is Somboom.
Very tricky name.
If you go, do not miss the abalone, or the giant prawns.
We also had the conch which was great, but the above mentioned were outstanding.
I couldn't believe the quality of their fish.
You are right.
We stood out like a sore thumb.
It was all Thai's in the restaurant when we were there.
It is not fancy, almost looks like a multi-level cafeteria.
I would imagine that almost all of the dealers in River City are competent and honest, however if anyone wants to know exactly where I made my purchases I will attempt to look it up.

I can't find the card, just some written notes.
Pretty sure it is
Somboom Seafood
169/7/11 Surawong Rd.
I would call to make sure I am correct.
Happy eating.
Would love a report for my next trip on anything I missed.
Happy eating.
