Honeymoon destination help!!!!!
We are in serious need of some help to find a destination. We are a young (early 30s) couple looking for some adventure and leisure. Our budget is around 6000-8000 (US dollars) for the both of us and that includes airfare (from Richmond, VA USA). It needs to be on a beach but the problem we are having is finding a location that has both quiet and adventurous/fun (volleyball, beach games, etc). We enjoy having people around to talk to. We have looked at cape town South Africa but have read that the weather may not be the best when we plan to go (May 22-29). We have looked into bora bora, Maldives, and any of the smaller islands but they looked more secluded, I may be missing something. We have also looked into Caribbean but that looks more "resorty" which maybe ok if the place is right. Any help from the forum would be so greatfull. This is supposed to be fun but has been a real pain, haha. Maybe what I'm looking for doesn't exist but I would like to think I'm wrong. Haha thanks again for any help.

I agree, I think you are looking for contradictory things. We used to get lots of questions where people wanted seclusion and locals only but luxury hotels and gourmet restaurants. Your question is similar.
While my first thought was Phuket, as it has some quiet, secluded beaches as well as very active beaches, but May will be quite rainy. I'd suggest you choose one or the other - quiet or active. That way, you won't drive yourselves crazy.
The most romantic beaches I've been to were on Bora Bora.

Congratulations, JG, on your upcoming wedding!
You mention the Caribbean. What about a combo of St Thomas (beach activities at Morningstar Beach at the Marriott; then ferry to St John and stay at a rental cottage (the Coral Bay side more "local" feel--my favorite part of the island) for the stunning prefect often quiet beaches of St john.
Or (although you didnt specifically mention it) Hawaii--any of the islands will have both quiet beaches and more"activity" ones.
I assume you posted your question also in the Caribbean forum? If Hawaii entices you post on the USA forum.

You should look at Bali. It's a long flight from VA, but once you get there, Bali offers a lot of what you're looking for. The weather is good in May and it's before the big tourist crunch in June. The dollar goes a long way in Bali and a budget of $6000 to $8000 will give you charming boutique accommodation on the lower end and luxury on the high end.
You won't get the pristine white sand, calm clear water of the Caribbean, but you will get wide sandy beaches, big surfer-friendly waves, sunsets and plenty of activity. The Seminyak/Petitenget area has nice beaches and lots of shops, spas and clubs and restaurants in the area.
The youngest hippest area is further north in Canggu (look at Batu Belig, Brawa, Batu Bolong) full of surfers, yogis and 20 and 30 somethings looking for fun day and night. Look at Finn's Beach Club, Deus ex Machina and Old Man's. Lively, but still laid back and beach-y.
You could split your time between a few days at the beach and a few days inland in the Ubud area for nature and culture. There are many, many activities, like hiking, biking, rafting, exploring volcanoes, rain forests, waterfalls, little villages and so forth.
Overarching all of this is the remarkable Balinese culture -- religious ceremonies, performing arts, arts and crafts and the traditional way of life.
A few places that I would look at (just to get started) would be
Southern beaches: The Colony Hotel, the Alila Seminyak, the Legian Seminyak
Ubud town and surrounding: Uma Ubud, the Komaneka Groups, the Samaya
You can go up or down in price from there. Right on the beach will be highest, but there are plenty of places that are within walking distance.
Or you could rent a private villa and have your own pool and staff. Look at Elite Havens villa rentals for high end and Airbnb for everything under the sun.
