Hanoi hotel

I'm lost as far as a Hanoi hotel. We're very picky and want at least a 4 star hotel, preferably 5 star unless the 4 star is spectacular in some way. We were in Hanoi this past February and stayed at the Aira Boutique Hanoi Hotel & Spa, which was a perfectly fine hotel, but I was in such a bad place and had such a bad time in Hanoi that I don't think I could stay there again. I want to be close to the Old Quarter and would love to stay in a hotel with an executive lounge, but have not been able to find a hotel with one. We have stayed at MGallery hotels in Saigon (and will again on this next trip) and in Hoi An, but the MGallery in Hanoi does not seem to have one. Still, it looks like a nice hotel. Another hotel I am looking at is the Hotel du Lac https://hoteldulachanoi.com/
Also looking at the Sofitel and Movenpick. Any suggestions? Do you know of any nice hotels that have an executive lounge? While that is not a necessity, I am open to other hotels that are well situated and have something special to offer. We will be in Hanoi from February 4 to February 8, 2024.

Many of the international chains like Intercontinental etc will have Club rooms but they are mostly located out by the West Lake were you probably won't want to stay as it is too far from the old quarter etc.

we have stayed in a lot of hotels in Hanoi at all levels including many of the Accor brand Hotels you mention. I think the only the only property relatively close to the old quarter/Hoan Kiem lake that has a club lounge is the Sofitel Metropole. We have stayed there a couple of times in the old and new wings though not in the club rooms. It is a very historic place with lots of famous guest in years gone by. It is expensive in comparison to other. We also stayed in the McGallery de l'opera McGallery nice but not to the standard of the Saigon property. Both of those are in the French Quarter, an upscale area which is a nice place to stay south of Hoan Kiem and maybe a 20 min walk to the Old Quarter. The Movenpick is another Accor property but not in a terrific location. No lounge but you could always spring for the Penthouse + room service!

When we were their in October we stayed at the La Siesta Premium Hang Be. It is four rather than five star but relatively new and the rooms are great as are the staff and service. Like many Hanoi hotels it is in one of the tall thin buildings and is a short walk from the north side of the lake on a relatively quiet street (for Hanoi) . Great location for most places in the OQ. I would stay again, something that doesn't happen that often! Maybe worth a look - https://lasiestahotels.vn/hangbe/

We had a fabulous stay on the Concierge floor of the Sofitel Metropole in Hanoi. We actually paid less than for a room on the non Concierge floor due to a special deal I found. Exquisite service, food available all day and night, views! Highly recommend this hotel!

Thanks for the replies. It’s between the Sofitel and the La Siesta, which actually looks very nice. We’re already spending 5 nights at the Regent Phu Quoc at about $535/night, so I need to think really hard whether I want to spend over $550/night to stay on the club floor of the Sofitel, when we can get a suite at the La Siesta for half the price, and supply our own wine and snacks. I may book both at the refundable rates and keep checking back on the price.

I booked the La Siesta Premium Hang Be, the Siesta Suite, which looks lovely and has a large balcony/terrace. I booked the refundable rate at $278.00/night, including taxes and the 3% fee for paying with Visa. A room at the Sofitel with club access will be about $650.00/night. Not sure I could justify this. Even the Sofitel's least expensive room, non-refundable, no club access, no balcony, would be more than the suite at the Siesta. I'll check back on prices now and then, but unless it comes down, I think we will keep La Siesta and provide our own club. We will have the club access at the Hotel des Arts in Saigon, and at the Hilton Millennium in Bangkok. The Regent Phu Quoc provides a wonderful minibar that is replenished every day, and a big balcony facing the sea, so we're all set there. I appreciate all of the feedback. As usual, I am putting my trust in crellston, who has never steered me wrong.

We stayed at the Peridot in the Grande suite and the Sinfonia majesty in a Majesty Suite. Both are 5 star and in the old quarter. Thought the Grand suite at the Peridot was not worth the money and would get just the luxury suite if we returned. Did like the majesty suite in the La Sinfonia. Peridot a more established hotel with better breakfast. Neither have a lounge. Have stayed in some nice Sofitels. Do like the London location. Thought the Hanoi hotel was really overpriced

Such responsibility! 😉

I like your idea of sitting up your own “club”. I like club lounges but hotel bars not so much. Even ordering room service would seem cost effective with those price differentials. My fingers are crossed for you that this trip is less stressful than your last.

This sounds like a great deal! Where is your Hanoi hotel located?

Laurieco, did you need to prepay this hotel when you made the booking???
I always go though Booking.com and Expedia and have found that a lot of hotels I wanted to book don't have a 'pay later' option, which I prefer if I am booking months out from a trip. This is my 'just in case' something happens and we do not go. La Siesta hang be does not have this option

When I stayed there they had a flexible option - basically nothing to pay on booking and fully cancellable until 5 days before. They took payment 5 days before arrival. A quick look at booking.com and it seems this is still the case

I also took the flexible option. I think I can cancel up to the day before or that day. I booked on the hotel’s website, not through a third party.

laurico, enjoy your time in Hanoi. It’s a beautiful city, with energy and great dining choices. We certainly did not pay that much for the Concierge floor at the Metropole! We were there five or six nights.

Based on my experience, it's more convenient and affordable in booking to a third-party website (not sure why). You can also cancel a day before.

The price was better on the hotel's website and there were more options.
