I'm looking for day tours from Tokyo to the countryside or villages/towns etc , either it be by a tour company or by myself on public transport. I have checked Viator (which is good) ,but are there any other companies or trips anyone could recomend please?

I, too, am looking at Tokyo and day trips. While I'm still in my early stages of planning, I have found a couple websites that are quite helpful. The first is TokyoFreeGuide.com - it looks like a group that gives free tours of Tokyo and you pay any entrance fees and/or refreshments. The other is TrulyTokyo.com - quite a comprehensive offering of things to do and then some.
