Beaches from Hanoi and Hanoi - Kunming info

I am looking for good beaches not far from Hanoi. Any help / suggestion?
We should spend 7 / 8 days in Vietnam (Hanoi) and I promised to my daughter to spend 2 or 3 on a (beautiful) beach!

Any input on the cost of train / flight between Kunming (China) and Hanoi?

Thanks, regards.

According to www.seat61.com, the narrow-gauge train from Kunming to Hanoi has been suspended due to flood damage.

If you want to take the train, you need to go the long way via Nanning in Guangxi province.

Not sure about direct flight either, and flights to Vietnam is never too cheap. You may want to get to Kunming first before deciding.

I hired a car and driver from Kunming to Hekou (Vietnamese border) and another car (prebooked) from Hekou border to Hanoi. It worked very well and was not too expensive.

Re beaches. Which month are you travelling? I went to Halong Bay in Dec. - the islands are beautiful but it was very cold in the winter. I am told it is lovely and warm in the summer!!

Good luck

There are direct flights from Kunming to Hanoi - see http://www.vietnamairlines.com/.
We flew this 2 yrs ago - I can't remember the cost, it wasn't too expensive though.
On beaches, although not exactly near Hanoi, most people like Hoi An very much, the beach here is fine & some nice hotels & things to see.
