Hello
I will be having half a day in Kuala lumpur in December. would really appreciate advice on shopping in the City for watches (good/ competive prices) and handicrafts. Are shops in Surya shopping center suitable ?
thank you

If by Surya you mean the one under the twin towers then this is an excellent world class shopping mall - that you can easily spend half a day in. There is pretty much everything in the mall (department stores, designer shops, trinkets et cetera )except real cheap bargains.

If you want bargains go to Central Market - its in Chinatown I believe.
The area has a lot of stalls, and some shops as well- take a taxi over they are very cheap. Watch your valuables though as the area is very crowded.

For good competitive prices on watches and a wide selection for it, I would try the shops in the shopping malls along Jalan Bukit Bintang - there's Starhill, KL Plaza, Lot 10, Bukit Bintang Plaza and Sungai Wang Plaza - they're not as upmarket as the ones in Suria KLCC(with the exception of Starhill) but you'd have more shops to choose from and they're all located on the same street.

For handicrafts, I'd suggest either Karyaneka (the craft complex - it's fairly close to Jalan Bukit Bintang) or Central Market. There are also some beautiful upmarket handicraft shops in Suria KLCC - Aseana is one of them, can't remember what the others are called.
